When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

The "whole pronoun thing" assholes refer to (yeah, Newsom's an asshole, even when he's OUR asshole) is simple:

Show people respect by referring to them by the name and pronouns they prefer.

That's it. Stop pretending like it's some complicated thing. It's not. You're just being a baby.

Maybe you do your best to try to default to they/them instead of something gendered. That's hard because you're overcoming decades (5 decades in my case) of practice. But you can do it. And if you slip up, that's okay.

The "pronoun thing" is fucking dead simple:

Person A: tells you what their pronouns are
Person B: refers to them by those pronouns

Sometimes you fuck up, especially when you knew Person A before they told you their pronouns. Okay.
