In any case, every day the company more closely resembles the social products that they have so vocally disdained. They built a network; they grow it through engagement-based algorithms and push notifications; they apologize when they inadvertently amplify hate speech.

And when it comes to content moderation, on Substack as on any other social network, your rights come down to the whims of the co-founders and a handful of their employees.

It turns out that most venture-backed consumer internet companies ultimately take similar shapes. I'm under no illusion the Substack founders will take this moment to re-think their policies on Nazis. But it would be nice if it taught them some humility.

iPadOS 26 Turns the iPad Into a Sort of 'Mac Jr.' It's not bad, but it's also not really for me. Maybe that's the point.

With iPadOS 26 now in public beta, my thoughts from earlier builds are still the same. The ever-more-hybrid approach makes the iPad now feel like using a 'Mac Jr.' of sorts...

Conventional US burials use millions of gallons of embalming fluid and tons of concrete and hardwood each year. Loop Biotech, a Dutch startup, is now bringing a greener alternative to the US for the first time. We deserve better & we can build it!

Using social media we should demand these basic rights!

Don't use systems that don't uphold these rights.

Don't build systems that go against our interests and users.

Why we need a social media bill of rights!

I think like many, many people I find the idea that CBS has just cancelled Colbert out of the blue like this for financial reasons *highly* implausible. He’s the most viewed late night host on TV, and his ratings have been going up.
