NSF downsizes summer research program for undergraduates Many participants are from groups underrepresented in science

Due to the Musk/Trump Administration’s draconian cuts, the National Science Foundation is significantly scaling back its program to provide college students with paid summer research internships. Many of my colleagues attribute their start in science to this program.

I wanted to try drawing my summer research species and had some fun with colors along the way

Both species can be called pipipi in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. The spotted guy is Neripteron neglectum and the stripey dude is Nerita picea

Kūpaoa, also called naʻenaʻe (Dubautia menziesii), is endemic to the summit of Haleakalā. It can hybridize with ʻāhinahina, and can be used to scent kapa.
