I think it's a loyalty test. I don't think it matters to him if his picks can do the job or not, he wants to see who doesn't confirm them.

That's why I always use some iteration of my nickname...lol. I totally get it though; I have not followed some people back because I have no idea who they are. On the flip side, it's nice to go back to some anonymity.
