Two years ago I barely knew anything about storm chasing and meteorlogy. A few weeks ago Jerome and @aaron-stormchase.bsky.social from SturmjΓ€ger NRW and I threw in all our knowledge and experience to make a dreamlike storm chase come true. This is how we did it: m.youtube.com/watch?v=q1b4...

10.04.2025 10:41 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Zoom in on the funnel cloud of a tornado between Geuda Springs and Arkansas City, KS back in May 2018.
23.03.2025 21:47 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0May the depth of the inflow layer have a negative effect too? In the case with a lot of humidity in the lower atmosphere the inflow layer is much deeper. Could this have a negative influence on the tilting of low level vorticity?
22.02.2025 11:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 02/2 And I've asked myself so often how strong this effect is or if it has any. So thank you for that! π Is there any way to take this into account for downdraft intensity and coldpool strength?
22.02.2025 11:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 01/2 That's the point I was wondering about so often! While falling, precip doesn't warm adiabaticly as air would when drawn downward. The typically considered things are evaporatuve cooling and precip loading but the cooling effect of the temperature of the precip itself is never really considered.
