Gaza in Cijfers @nrc.nl. Je kan alleen tellen wat je enigsinds kan meten. Cijfers zijn onderschattingen. Kleine notitie, het zijn niet wetenschappers van de Lancet, het zijn wetenschapper van LSHTM/MSF. Zie dit vaker misgaan in wetenschappelijke studies die gequote worden.

Het feit dat ik nog steeds vaak hoor, wat praat je goed Nederlands, komt zelden van laagopgeleiden.

Of hoe goed luistert de intellectuele klasse naar een groep met die daar niet uit geboren is. COVID-19 was echt een prime example. De meeste kritiek kwam vaak uit de links intellectuele hoek, niet omdat ik ernaast zat, maar maakte geen deel uit van de netwerken.

Zeker voor mensen die klimmen op de 'sociale ladder' ligt dan anders. En uit persoonlijke ervaring kan ik daar veel over zeggen. Generaliserend: Extreemrechts daarvan weet ik waar ze staan. Linkse mensen, walking the talk? Hoe snel vliegen DEI programma's wel niet de deur uit nu.

Concept van 'neerkijken' heeft verschillende interpretaties. Hoger en lager opgeleiden kennen veel substraat en groepen. Lukraak een paar studies pakken om een punt te maken is weinig behulpzaam. Antropologen zoals Sinan Cankaya schrijven daar zeer goed over uit eigen ervaring.

Relaas gelezen, maar als epidemioloog, denk ik dat er heel veel bias zit in de Nederlands gedane studies. Realiteit is veel complexer omdat 'neerkijken' uiting kan hebben op ontzettend veel manieren. Uiteraard is er veel meer werk gedaan in het buitenland dat meer nuance laat zien.

Vandaag publiceer ik in ESB een artikel over de wijze waarop we corrigeren voor huishoudgrootte.

Ik laat zien dat de huidige methode van inkomens meten zorgt voor een onderschatting van de gemeten inkomensongelijkheid en van de benodigde bijstand voor meerpersoonshuishoudens.
