Have never listened to @thewaroncars.bsky.social podcast, but followed them on Bsky because of urbanist mutuals like @nerd4cities.bsky.social , @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social , etc.
After seeing 10,000,000 posts, I have finally broken down and preordered Life After Cars. Very much looking forward to it

I've read Casey Johnston's work for quite some time now, and I've always found her writing to be smart, engaging and worth my time. I'll be getting this book. Check it out. You may want to read it, too.

Can't wait to read this and I hope yall will give it a read too

I don't know what I was expecting when I put on this audiobook. Maybe a standard bro-science success story? Maybe a fun story about "getting in shape"? This book is more. Maybe I just stumbled onto it at the right time for me, but I can't say enough about how impressed I am with this book. Read it!

running without a bra, part two: horseshoe theory
In the matter of "medium support" sports bras, we must ask, qui bene? Plus: baggy workout pants; a lift-and-run program; the last payphone before the forest. This is Link Letter 175!
100% not my business as a non runner, non boob haver, but the recent iteration of @caseyjohnston.bsky.social's newsletter re sports bras was wicked interesting. I remember when sports bras were introduced, naively... ๐งต

"I submit there are a lot of sports bras out there that very likely make running more painful than running without a bra at all, especially if you have large breasts, because they turn what would otherwise be virtually painless 'swing' into all 'bounce'."

I also have advice. Everybody loves reading advice on the computer, so I'll share it: the best thing you can do right now is log off as hard as you can. Go outside, talk to people in real life where it's actually kind of rude to talk about the news, try to actually see the friends you usually just text message. Go for a long drive and turn the phone off while you do it. Get back into your hobbies or pick one and learn it for a while. Watch one of those studio movies that reviews called "wildly miscalculated" and you haven't seen since high school. Play an album you like but find embarrassing. Go to free community events even if they sound stupid. If you take the freeway, try the surface streets. Go to a bad diner and just order some bad coffee because even bad coffee is good coffee.
You can't help anybody when you're exhausted and keep posting one million college-educated rewordings of "I would love to be dead right now" on the computer. Walk away from the thing and try out some of those normal things you hear about and if you get bored that's wonderful because we're not supposed to get bored anymore. It turns out boredom is the Cadillac of feelings.

Tumblr post from every-lemon

so my spouse is part of a weirdly intense but mostly benign men's workout group that meets at like, 5:30am outside every day, even in winter. they do a lot of burpees and lugging cinder blocks up hills and stuff.
they take turns leading the workouts and tomorrow is his turn. I asked what he was planning. he handed me a sheet of William Carlos William poems from a large stack he'd printed.
I said "what" and he explained, helpfully, "it's a William Carlos William themed workout." I asked what inspired it and he said "l've been planning this for months."

it was a smash hit.
a dozen guys showed up (more than usual). spouse brought a red wheelbarrow and they took turns bringing cinder blocks up the hill with it. then they broke up in teams and did a relay with an "icebox" (cooler filled with 40lbs of ice). at the end he opened the cooler to reveal it was full of beach plum lacroix and all the guys cheered. they drank sparkling water as he read 'approach of winter' out loud.
he was home by 6:30am.

Political cartoon styled as the Trojan Horse story. A large wooden horse labeled 'ABUNDANCE' sits outside the gates of a city labeled 'YIMBY'. Inside the horse, text reads 'DONALD TRUMP'S LARGEST DONORS AND A BUNCH OF INTERNET NAZIS'. A small figure labeled 'EZRA KLEIN' stands near the horse, gesturing toward the city gates where two guards are visible. The image appears to be commentary on YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard) housing policy movements.
