If you tolerate or ignore these actions you are complicit

If you dismiss or make light of these behaviours you are complicit

If you don’t understand why these actions are problematic, educate yourself

Making a space where everyone is safe, welcome & unthreatened isn’t censorship, it’s decency

I can even do a Clarkson impression. It’s either β€˜this was the best car ever UNTIL I hit the motorway’ or β€˜this was the worst car ever UNTIL I pressed this button’

this is SUCH a lovely write up of my pub I'm proper having a little cry reading it - Steve writes delightfully about pubs at large and extremely generously about mine in particular

(you should come in for the chance to meet him and his lovely dog Molly)

Just read the craft beer pinup article.
Made me think, I was going to offer a female friend a compliment the other week but felt that if I did it may come across as creepy. All I wanted to say was that she was looking in good shape like she's been working out or exercising. In my mind it was all about respect for the effort made by someone keeping fit. If I had said something my hope would be that she understood where I was coming from and it was the exact opposite of creepy.
Anyway, I never said anything so it's a moot point. Male fear of making compliments I guess!

My DMs aren’t open for this kind of stuff particularly if we’re never met direct this towards your friends. This is not the time to centre yourself

Yes the culture and atmosphere is heavily loaded towards toxic behaviour

It’s my belief that large beer festivals are unsafe spaces for people like me as it’s like having 60 pubs crammed in one space but without 60 publicans. And in one-off events people behave terribly

β€˜Ever going to write about proper pubs!’ when I was signing my book.

The servers would ignore me and I only found it playable when I met a few people at the end. It was a fucking shitshow tbh

I didn’t talk about my experiences of GBBF 2023 as my book had just come out and I didn’t feel it was appropriate. But I wasn’t allowed into the building because the volunteers thought I was β€˜a hawker’ even though the book was published by CAMRA. I kept getting stared at and one guy said 1/2

It’s a nice day for a beer festival (if you’re a man) Yesterday, I attended The Great British Beer Festival for the first time in a few years. Mainly because it was in Birmingham and I wanted to show up and support my community – it’s the first …

This is not good and, sadly, resonates with my experiences as a non-white person attending at the past too. I don't do large beer festivals and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon

Eclectic Avenues β€” How London’s First Black Pub Landlords Changed the City’s Drinking Culture β€” Good Beer Hunting The HMT Empire Windrush has become a fitting symbol of the plight of Black Britain. Near me a host of Spoons have shut. As Pete says they’re the nearest thing we have to Working Men’s clubs but they’re also the spaces black drinkers find community in. All the sources here were in them (and a lot of the pubs are now closed or closing)
