I heard someone smarter than me say that only people who are actually competent in their craft/field doubt themselves because they are the ones who truly want to excel. I think about that a lot when I doubt myself as a designer.

Tip for newer homebrewers: nothing is free. Using art you found with a Google search isn’t kosher. Commissions and stock art purchases are the only way you can guarantee legitimate operations

This isn't a thing in any creative circles, ever. The only time you don't need to talk to an artist about using their work in your publication is if you buy their stock art, which comes with a license that covers a conversation about rights, usage. This person's explanation is extra ripe bullshit.

a how to guide for creating crossword dungeons. Step 1 - Find and Do, do the crossword. Step 2 - See Beyond, find the inspiring words and start to see the shape. Step 3 - Extrapolate, ditch words you dont like, create walls, you contol the dungeon. Step 4 - Draw the rest of the owl (make the dungeon from the inspiration). Step 5 - BE NOT AFRAID. Its just a dungeon created from a crossword, they wont always work.
Useful tips: Metro for daily free crosswords. CrosswordSolver, for tricky clues. DungeonScrawl, for making maps. LootTheRoom - for more random ideas

A comment on itch reminded me of this idea for creating #TTRPG dungeons I had a while back. I still think its neat and I don't think I've actually shared it here on bsky.

So bsky.. meet Crossword Dungeons!
Do a crossword, use the answers and designs as inspiration for the rooms, get creative!

100% agree on this take. I heard on the grapevine they initially wanted to make a series out of it, so maybe the sudden shift in story direction was due to that.

While I think the best ruling is the one that works for your table, there's something insanely addicting about being able to smartly use a spell for an unintended purpose but works within the bounds and rules of it.

So yes, I agree and would let magic-users at my table do the same.

I like the way you've framed that (might even start using it for my games tbh)

How would this keywording hypothetically work if say, the "Cast" is more of applying a status buff to your ally than magically harming the enemy? Since casting a spell isnt limited to damaging effects (in 5E at least).

I love the explanation you give with jazz music. That just made everything make sense.

As someone who is recently struggling with being too derivative, this really helped me put my creativity into perspective.

Great read! I think every maker should be aware of this.

One issue I see a lot of new RPG scenario writers stumble with is the hesitation to embrace tropes or use pre-existing media as blatant inspiration. Don't be so eager to be an innovator that you refuse to travel down beaten paths. My favorite adventures are littered with these moments.

DriveThruRPG delisted a tabletop game about revolutions over β€œhateful” politics Rebel Scum's censorship reveals the limits of Roll20's apolitical guidelines.

Roll20, which owns DriveThruRPG, told Rebel Scum's designer (@9thlevelgames.bsky.social) that allowing their "hateful content" and political speech on its platform constituted a "slippery slope."

Choosing to be 'apolitical' rather than standing with an antifascist creator is a crazy move.

I’ve only been watching TTRPG news maybe once or twice a week, so I’m kinda getting an outside perspective for the first time in a while. One of the things sticking out is Daggerheart’s success being used to indicate WotC’s death. A healthy competitor isn’t a death sentence, it’s just a threat.

Curious to know your thoughts on the daggerheart gaming license if you have one

As someone viewing this from a non-3PP perspective, I think critical role just chose a more controlling approach to 3PP content which I think isn't wrong to do unlike the OGL where wotc was trying to revoke the openness
