Sign of the times: @mjgault.bsky.social interviewed ABC's John Quiñones re: his podcast about Vanessa Guillén, a soldier who was murdered at Ft Hood in 2020. When Gault asked how Sec. Def. Pete Hegseth could roll back reforms made in response to Guillén's death, a PR person cut in to shut it down.

"I don't want current events to cloud what we're trying to do with the podcast," the PR person told me. It can't be avoided. You can't pretend it's not happening.

Vanished is a good show. Guillén's legacy is important. I won't just ignore Hegseth's tarnishing it.

In our talk, John mentioned the People First Initiative as one of the many new things brought about by Guillén's death.

In a post-Trump and Hegseth world, the landing page for that is gone.

Of all the weird and disturbing things in Hegseth's speech, "No more anonymous complaints. No more repeat complainants" struck me as one of the worst. He's talking about a complete change in the way watchdog complaints are handled, for the worse.

Red Hat Investigating Breach Impacting as Many as 28,000 Customers, Including the Navy and Congress A hacking group called the Crimson Collective says it pulled data from private GitHub repositories connected to Red Hat's consulting business. Red Hat has confirmed it is investigating the compromise.

Red Hat told 404 Media it's aware of the breach. The list of clients potentially affected include the US Navy, Congress, Walmart, and several telecoms.
