Retired diplomat and councillor, living in Cornwall. People think I've moved to the left - the reality is that the country has lurched violently to the right, surely? Please don't blame me - I voted remain.

The Deputy Chair of the Reform group on Cornwall Council, Rowland Oโ€™Connor, has quit the party, ITV West Country reports.

Oโ€™Connor says his views on how to help local people โ€œincreasingly diverged from those of the partyโ€.

Looks like they have revived Jeremy Hunt's magic money tree! Thousands for young people getting their first job, cutting business rates - what about a free Caribbean cruise for all pensioners???

Some of us in Cornwall have fibre to the premises! ๐Ÿ˜ My latest computer lacks a DVD slot - but I have obtained instead a stand-alone DVD reader that plugs into one of the slots in the computer.

and his feisty puppy, Champers, have enjoyed their morning constitutional along the beach, under the close supervision of the current Mrs S.
Champers is trying to remember the rest of that saying about red skies in the morning. Doug is thinking that he may nip out and batten down a few hatches...

I'm not uncritical of the BBC. But 'Beyond Belief' broadcast on Radio 4 just after 6am today was the most balanced and reasoned discussion of immigration I have heard in years (despite some Widdicombe nonsense). If you have access to BBC Sounds, and half an hour to spare, it is worth a listen.

I was immensely proud to represent my country overseas for some 35 years. Thank goodness I retired when I did and do not therefore have to try to do so with conviction now.

Oh, BBC! Why all this news time devoted to the murder of one rightwing activist. You give massacred schoolchildren much less coverage!

Not convinced this story is entirely accurate - a local company has a 25 year lease on the turntable.

Don't be so confident that we have reached the zenith of stupidity. My 70+ years may not have taught me all I might wish. But I have learned that things are never so bad that they cannot get worse...

If Angela Rayner lived in a cardboard box, the Telegraph would claim she nicked it.

Gave up my membership of the LibDems when Ed Davey became leader because I did not think he would be effective.

Just heard him talking about asylum - and the link between Farage, Brexit and the small boats phenomenon - on the Today programme.

Thinking of joining the party again!

Why oh why do none of the main parties have the courage to make the point that immigration is essential to the UK's future economic and social well being?!

Dear media.

I think controlled immigration is a good thing for our culture & our economy.

I think we should be a safe place for people fleeing persecution.

I think youโ€™re enabling far right extremism to flourish & become the norm in this country?

I think thatโ€™s appalling.

From a UK citizen.

The post below is the sort of thing that makes my blood boil. There is no evidence whatever that it is more than a deliberate attempt to produce a knee jerk reaction. But it is so difficult to rebut in any effective way. Any ideas?
