The institutions did not hold.

I guess I just want to say that Trump has captured every single institution. You can track variation in, say, court decisions or changing positions on tariffs but even conceding those things accepts that his whims run institutions’ priorities. Not a single one of them really stood.

Who Should Decide What Students Read? Meet the pretenders who want to be the deciders

It's Teacher Appreciation Week. Here's how to appreciate teachers: trust them to choose books and curricular materials using an established, professional process.

I don't think I ever ask my students what they want to be when they grow up. It's still all around us though bc many of them talk about it.

I promised myself I wouldn’t become the old person who asks kids stuff like this. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ it takes A Lot of work not to do it. Like a spirit comes over you that says, β€œand so do you have a little friend at school?!” You must resist.

Cybersecurity Professor Mysteriously Disappears as FBI Raids His Homes Xiaofeng Wang, a longtime computer science professor at Indiana University, has disappeared along with his wife, and their profiles on the school's website were wiped ahead of recent FBI raids.

This is scary as shit. The part about Indiana University erasing his existence entirely from their system is particularly chilling.

so much planning time goes in to being a good teacher. and I am paid for 4 hours a week of planning. and my paid time happens to come at the end of my work day when I'm exhausted--not optimal for thinking.

we had a self-directed teacher work day today. which means we didn't have to sit in meetings, we could actually do work. it's the first one we've had since august. which says a lot about our profession.

Uncle Munk weekend advice: Slow down. The most important thing to get done this weekend is taking care of you. Spend a few extra minutes on you. Call your friend you've been meaning to call. Sit outside in the sun. Go to that coffee shop you keep passing by. Life ain't what you do it's what you feel

Really good point. I'm realizing we dance around this at my school too. they spend so much time talking about fidelity to the curriculum (πŸ™„) as if teaching methods don't play a role.

Students are being harassed on/near campus by ICE (Fuck ICE) and faculty are like β€œlet’s host a panel on the implications of ICE aggressions on students and then let’s publish a paper.” PROTECT YOUR STUDENTS. DEMAND ADMIN PROTECTS THEM. #resist #academicsky

There is literally no ethical use of genAI.

πŸ”₯ It's built on theft.
πŸ”₯ It consumes vast environmental resources.
πŸ”₯ It consumes vast financial resources to support it.

No company currently touting their "ethical" genAI has attempted to address all three. Once they do then MAYBE a discussion begins.

"A terrified young student, snatched off the street by a masked police force taken thousands of miles across the country without anyone knowing. It is as flatly authoritarian as anything we have ever seen in this country," says Chris Hayes on Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk's detention.

Defend the liberty of a stranger as you would defend your own, or that of a loved one, because that is what's actually on the tableβ€”whether we are a society that will sit still as our neighbors are snatched in the night, and disappeared into darkness, or a society that will fight for each other.

Let's be really really clear. The Trump admin chose a Palestinian activist as the target of its first lawless political detention precisely BECAUSE they believe that will split the opposition.

If you shrug at the abduction of Mahmoud Khalil, or worse, cheer it on, you're following Trump's script.

60 years after Bloody Sunday in Alabama, elusive racial progress in Selma Events in Selma, Ala. six decades ago helped win support for the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Today local activists say they're still fighting stubborn segregation, poverty and gun violence.

Post-Selma op-eds:

Carville: "Bonehead bridge stunt alienates working class whites"

Durbin: "Protesters lack decorum!"

Fetterman: Why I'm co-sponsoring Josh Hawley's 'Free the Bridges' act, allowing motorists to run over protesters

Jeffries: "God still on the throne"
