i always try to remember that when i feel like my art isn't up to par (in my eyes), it's bc my eyes are more powerful than my skill level to see my art more objectively. but it also means that my skills are gonna get so powerful! i just need to be kind to myself and keep going 💪

but there's also a clear distinction between liking to draw a thing, vs liking to -look- at a thing. i love seeing a lovingly detailed rendering, but i can't do that without some outside force making me. let me draw them silly lil fellas more simply

and i think that's why artists usually say to take things you like from a bunch of artists rather than one. you may find that you like drawing hair like one artist, but draw eyes/noses/faces like a different artist, clothes like another, etc.

i won't always know why the artist chose to stylize their art in whichever way at first glance, but it's always fun seeing what decisions they make for the art they create, esp through studying.

and then you can find out things you have a lot of fun drawing that way! ART IS SO RAD, DID YA KNOW? 🙌💖

i think doing a style challenge with your oc is interesting. you have the most knowledge about your character, but not the full knowledge of the style/artist you're trying to replicate. the artists who aren't you have those things flipped around.
