Actually, the more I think about it, the parade scene is more than just good CGI for the times and visually stunning, it is narratively, a pivotal moment in Squall’s thoughts beginning to shift.
It’s overshadowed by the shock of potential character death and then the Jesus / Judas opening after.

Once he realized he was not, in fact, the same as Squall, or even wanted the same things, and time compression was complete, he was able to find his friends, and spend some quality time hanging out with them, which he hadn’t really seen in the entire game.
Seifer is just waiting for his reward. His promised riches and the life he wants to create for him and his friends (who have since abandoned him) however the good news is he can always come back from it if he wants to.
I think ppl miss that part too.
Seifer abandons Edea the minute she is no longer possessed and devises a plan to “free” Ultemica from Rinoa’s body, so he can continue his knighthood bc he thinks that’s where he belongs.
So he does the dirty work for Ultemicia, sacrificing who he claims to care for in t he process.
In his need for revenge, the ultimate toxic masculine performance, he enmeshes his personal goals with his capture’s.
He doesn’t understand Squall’s allegiance are to his friends.
Squall isn’t hurling himself into space to save the sorceress, Ultemicia.
It’s to save Rinoa, the person.
However he is a willing participant bc his goal is to be the best. The most sought after. The SeeDiest SeeD that ever SeeDed.
Not bc he put in the work but bc he deserves it. It’s expected for him and if it wasn’t for Squall who Quistis just crushes on, he would have it.
Toxic masculinity requires a performance of the white knight. The savior. The benevolent chivalrous man that opens doors and pulls out chairs.
He’s not doing it bc he wants to. He performs bc he feels he is supposed to. In this sense, he is bc he is being controlled by Ultimecia, bc he’s willing
