The next Scottish Government will bring us to 2030, the milestone year where Scotland has committed to halting biodiversity loss. This makes next year's elections a critical moment for Scotland's seas.

🚨 Over HALF of UK #fishing catch limits have been set too high to be sustainable, AGAIN. Cod can now be overfished across all our waters & North Sea mackerel could also be put at grave risk. Our #ocean can’t take this. Govt MUST listen. Follow us to fight back! uk.oceana.org/reports/call...
🚨 EXPOSED: A new Greenpeace investigation has revealed that supertrawlers spent 36,918 HOURS fishing in UK protected waters over the last five years.
Marine protected areas should be sanctuaries for ocean life, NOT a place for destructive industrial fishing.
Really great day so far at #MarineForum2025! Bonus points for the life sized seal model 🦭

"I’m campaigning for legal protection for these fish, because no one has done a proper assessment of the impact of removing cleaner fish from Scottish reefs..."

Wrasse are a keystone species in inshore waters, ensuring the health of marine ecosystems 🐟
Good to see that the Scottish Gov now need to assess the impact of wrasse fishing on wider marine ecosystems before this year's fishing season in May.

Who is committed to climate red lines?
We analysed the #GE24 party election manifestos and scored them each on their commitments to a ban on LNG, a moratorium on data centres and eliminating energy poverty.
Consider who is committed to clear climate action when you vote on Friday! 🗣️🗯️🗳️
Very common question. Think of it this way: the Irish electoral system not only allows you to support the candidate(s) you like, but also to punish the ones you hate.
If you are genuinely passive about a batch of candidates, it’s ok to leave their boxes blank - but if you can rank them, you should!
"We are really at the edge of this precipice. In fact, I think we've fallen over it to be honest. So anything that happens needs to be radical and revolutionary".
A really interesting roadmap from Oceana! 🐟

🌍 The people who have contributed the least to #ClimateChange and #BiodiversityBreakdown, will bear the brunt of the negative effects.

I was away from Scotland during the UK general elections and could sign up for a postal vote so easily online. I have no idea why it's not the same in Ireland.
