I actually worked (and lived) there one summer. I never could find the Lyme lab, what with the huge alien autopsy room taking up all the space.

Weird that I almost have a memory of him actually testifying.

Mullis also testified in the OJ case that PCR was unreliable for amplifying DNA for forensic use.
My favorite bit of apocryphal trivia is that he was tripping balls on LSD when the whole idea of PCR came to him.

Per our Health Department Board meeting last week, SNAP leads to $13 million a month in spending in Buncombe County (which includes #Asheville). You’d think this would even grab the attention of the people who don’t care about their neighbors going hungry.

Finally (I know, I never have an accurate count for my threads), huge thanks to all the staff at Mission. The nurses, doctors and all the support staff have a ton of community support. There are somewhat frequent protests by staff fighting against unsafe staffing levels. Y’all rule.

Under HCA’s dismantling of patient care, we no longer have any medical oncologists. They serve a huge geographic region. To people who don’t live here, it’s very hard to describe how much pride we used to have in this hospital, vs the despair now.

Greg Lowe’s bonuses are based on profitability, with no bonuses linked to patient outcomes unless the hospital hits its revenue goals. Let that sink in. This op-Ed trying to place HCA’s mismanagement within the stellar past history of this once great hospital is disgusting. Stolen valor. 3/3

This occurred after a patient died in the ER waiting room bathroom, not found for over 20 minutes after pulling the emergency cord and setting off an alarm no one checked on. This is thanks to the massive support staff cuts put into place by Greg Lowe, author of the op-ed. 2/3
