Besides all of the E. coli, Listeria and Salmonella recalls over the years there have also been recalls for:
Rocks in food
Glass shards in this episode plus in their iced coffee
Plastic, metal, insects…
No wonder people call them Recall Joe’s

Well that too. I guess they figure if they add enough salmonella it’s no longer trademark infringement.

Trader Joe’s Recalls 4 Frozen Food Products That May Contain Glass

Trader Joe’s is wild. They have so many truly delicious, unique items, and a cult like following. But I swear there are more recalls, many of them for absolutely bonkers reasons, than any other store. It’s Russian roulette over there.

Every dem who cheered on Thom Tillis for grilling Kristi Noem yesterday shouldn’t discount pure misogyny as his main motivation. The guy is an absolute fucking scumbag with no principles.

Everything looks pretty normal. Still worth getting checked out but I bet they find nothing.

Does he have normal nail beds? Brittle claws can be caused by inflamed nail beds, sometimes from fungal infections like yeast or ringworm. There are also some immune mediated diseases. Is he eating a regular commercial diet? Rarely a nutritional deficiency can contribute. Rest of skin/coat normal?

Hope everyone will read this brilliant piece from @katherineeban.bsky.social on Casey Means.

Surgeon generals usually represent the very best of the medical community. Means isn’t even a part of it, by her own choosing.

In addition to being a terrible person, she was so bland as a commentator. Really added no value. Sad. Her story is inspiring. But she’s actively making it harder for people to follow in her footsteps.

You’ve done enough reporting on this that your are an honorary doctor of armchair epidemiology. Way better than a lot of the people who make confident claims to thousands of followers who have no f-ing clue what they’re talking about (some of whom have real degrees too!)

Anti-Trans Democrats Blown Out In North Carolina Primary Election Anti-trans Democrat Nasif Majeed lost to Veleria Levy, who ran on a pro-LGBTQ+ platform. Other conservative Democrats lost as well on primary day.

1. In yesterday's primary elections, anti-transgender Democrats found out the hard way why you don't throw transgender people under the bus.

Two anti-trans dems lost their primaries, including one that cast the deciding veto override vote, in blowouts.

Hopefully you here’s a wave of really awesome PhD dissertations being written on this subject. It’s a modelers dream. But I’ve let those skills atrophy from when I thought that was where my career was heading, so I’ll just keep armchair epidemiologying the crap out of this!

…predictions! I tend to agree with you now though, maybe we should aim for May/June vaccine recommendations instead of winter. It’s possible this could then cause the peak to go back to the winter due to waning though, and maybe we don’t want that from a public health standpoint. 🀷

Up until winter 2024 I was confident that the summer wave would eventually go away as we lost susceptibility due to vax and infection. Seasonality is always a marginal effect that only gives an advantage when susceptibility is low (2009 flu a great example). But I’ve lost confidence in making…

This could definitely turn out to be the case. But, I would want another full year of data before I said this with a ton of confidence. But we’ve now had bigger summer peaks in 2024 and 2025 than the following winter peaks. I just think these transmission dynamics and variant evolution are complex

Yeah, but before he reports this he’d better make sure Buttons doesn’t have peanut butter breath. Could turn out embarrassing for him if he makes a stink before all the evidence is in.

Wow, that’s a special keepsake you’ve got there.

Reminds me of the airport CT scanners. I got yelled at by TSA trying to take a picture once (not my picture here). That shape too!
They’re really leaning in!

I’m one of those people who knows a decent amount about a lot of things, but for everything that I know a lot about, I’m often around people who know a ton more about it than I do. My breadth over depth approach forces me to be constantly worried about the D-K effect. And constant imposter syndrome.

I didn’t shave when we were having cold weather, then when I did I kept a stache as a joke, but was convinced (by my wife) to keep it and now it makes life a little more fun.

They said shingles and I said, like what you cover a roof with? So basically my skin is so strong it’s like a roof to one of my beautiful buildings. Imagine that, it’s the strongest skin they’ve ever seen. The doctors are amazed. That must be why my nickname was roofie for all those years.

If your musical recommendations were a diagnostic test, we’d say that they have very high sensitivity, but low specificity. And I would consider that perfect accuracy for this use. I have quite a few things in my library based on your musical diagnoses. See for instance:

Forecasting the Next Pandemic Led by scientists from Yale and the University of Oklahoma, the Viral Emergence Research Initiative (Verena) is one of the largest pandemic prevention research

Very special to wake up today to a profile of @viralemergence.org from Yale. We’re in month eight of turmoil right now, and it’s hard to focus on the science, but the truth is: we have a lot more work to do.
