Extraordinary sight this morning as I watched a large Otter cross the road at a level crossing before disappearing into the River Tone which the railway line also crosses. Seemed content feeding in the flooded river.
I was so busy watching that I didn't take any pictures!
Previous videos have shown the flooding along the River Isle/Parrett and the River Tone.
Here's the River Yeo flowing towards a merge with the Parrett outside Langport.
28/01/2026 - Following the heavy rain brought by Storms Ingrid and Chandra in South Somerset this is the view looking up the River Tone towards Taunton.

#Kingfisher hunting in #Brixham Inner Harbour, #Devon.
A Jackdaw peeks out from a perfectly round hole in the weathered trunk of an old tree. Its sleek black feathers contrast with the rough, textured bark, and its pale eyes glint in the sunlight. The hollow frames the bird snugly... a cosy nook that looks preferable to any working Monday!
Monday? No, thank you.
I shall politely decline and stay in this nice tree instead.

#Razorbill heading underwater in search of prey. Amazing to watch the speed at which these birds fly underwater with sudden change of direction and acceleration.

View this morning of the River Tone from above Hook Bridge, Curload. Looking South-West up the river towards Taunton. At the bottom, the new concrete spillway is running with excess water going onto Curry Moor on the right. Hay Moor on the left is part filled by a syphon from Curry Moor ( I think!)

Long-tailed Tit in South #Somerset
A Long-tailed Tit having a quick preen and tidy up in the morning sun today. Lovely lichen covered branches in which the bird was looking for insects. #Somerset #Yeovil
