People can be living in whole other worlds just across the street. There just are some households with those crazy full force patriarchal values going about their day, unchallenged in any mindset til a situation calls for it.

18.11.2025 20:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0My only anecdote of Model X ownership is by a oretty famous content creator. His X was a constant lemon. Air suspension broke multiple times post repair. It died sitting on its own multiple times for not particularly long, and just over all unreliable.

18.11.2025 03:26 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0An AV-8B Harrier VTOL attack jet on static display.
The inside of the front nozzles show the interior turbine core, and aft end of the Low pressure compressor of the Pegasus engine, which produces "cold thrust"
The inside of the rear nozzles shows the exit turbine of the Pegasus engine, which feeds them with hot exhaust thrust
Because an AV-8B Harrier is more engine than aircraft, you can't remove one from an airframe, so this museum example still had one only partially enclosed.
Through the thrust nozzles you can peak inside at the Pegasus engine! The front nozzles are fed by the cold thrust and rears hot thrust #avgeek
We've already seen this story like 8 times in the last 5 years, so the question is when are the CEOs going to jail? And how much damage will be caused by the reckless investors
18.11.2025 01:34 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is such an effective attribute that even subsonic aircraft benefit from it, and even adding surface area to an aircraft will reduce drag in the form of antishock bodies like these tail end blisters on this 2 seat F102; creating a more gradual teardrop shape 💧
17.11.2025 22:58 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0If you think of the wings and tailplane of a plane as additional width, the air sees them as sudden juts of surface area. Sudden changes cause drag, so thinning out the fuselage makes the airflow respond gradually over the vehicle.
How much you thin it out approximates a teardrop shape 💧
The left side of an F-5E Tiger 2 light fighter, showing its area ruled fuselage, hallmark of fast and supersonic aircraft
An F-5E is a perfect subject to illustrate area ruled fuselages. Look at how it kinks in the middle over the wings and then widens out again.
All of the descriptions of area ruling always seemed so confusing, but I learned that it's literally approximating a tear drop shape on an airplane #airplane

17.11.2025 01:08 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0All the subsonic planes there had inlets that approximated a circle, even the F-86. Only the F6U Pirate broke that trend, though unfortunately that aircraft has the weakest engine performance. I suppose I don't have more to learn about jet inlets for the time being, until I get a certain book.
