My simplest explanation is, it just works. You want to play a game? You turn it on and put the game in. Want to watch a movie? Turn on the VCR and put the VHS in.

You don't have to jump through a thousand hoops to do it's basic function. Extra steps are optional to enhance the device, not mandatory

Cheap, minimally online if at all, doesn't spy on you, doesn't have subscriptions or micro transactions, won't be enshittified, you own it, reminds them of simpler times or childhood, modern pop culture is adversarial and alienating
