Both SACO and STAPL were associated with occupational quality of life among animal welfare volunteers, so their use may help improving both research and supervision of volunteers.

SACO measures two aspects of organisational support: communication (i.e. if the volunteers feel heard and can take part of decision making) & perceived resources (i.e. if volunteers feel that they are prepared and backed to deliver their labour)

STAPL focuses on friends and relatives' support. As you may imagine, general support may not match the support shown towards animal care labour (it is, they may help you in general, but not in this). Having and adapted tool may provide deeper insight on this gap.

New paper accepted in Voluntary Sector Review 🥳 It presents two questionnaires developed to assess animal welfare volunteers' support. Thus, it fills a gap regarding measures of volunteers' experiences.

You can also complete the interactive evaluations, if you are volunteering or managing animal welfare organizations. If you provide an email, you get the results by mail.

Antrozoología: beneficios de la interacción humano-animal
El Máster Universitario en Intervención Asistida con Animales (IAA), organizado de manera conjunta por la Universidad de Jaén y la universidad Internacional de Andalucía, constituye la única y más importante formación académica de postgrado en España desde su implantación en el curso 2015-2016 en la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía y la Universidad de Jaén. Desde su creación han sido más de 300 alumnos y alumnas las que han pasado por las aulas de la Sede Antonio Machado de Baeza en Jaén, siendo un lugar de encuentro para profesionales del ámbito de la IAA y, de manera global, para investigadores de primer nivel en el campo de la Antrozoología y las Interacciones Humano-Animal (IHA). De manera complementaria, se han generado otras formaciones como el curso de Guía Canino en Intervención Asistida con Perros, ahora reconvertido en microcredencial, y varios cursos de verano.El objetivo principal de esta actividad académica es propiciar un espacio de encuentro entre profesionales, estudiantes, investigadores y personas en general que tengan interés en el ámbito de la Antrozoología, las Interacciones Humano-Animal y las Intervenciones Asistidas con Animales, poniendo en valor toda la investigación, docencia y avances que se han registrado de la mano del Máster Universitario en IAA, del cual se cumplen en 2025 diez años desde su creación. Asimismo, en este encuentro se podrán abordar temáticas y debates actuales vinculados a la relación entre los seres humanos y otros animales, tan importante en el desarrollo de las sociedades actuales.Para ello, se contará con la participación de reconocidos investigadores y profesionales de la Antrozoología, las IHA y la IAA, tanto de Andalucía como de otros lugares de España y Argentina. El contenido del encuentro se dividirá en 7 ponencias y una mesa redonda.

Interesting results, they challenge a good part of what has been said in previous literature. It is of importance to rethink our standards when assuring assistance and AAI dogs' welfare.

Beyond human-animal bond, perhaps we should foster more intense computer-animal interactions... because AI seems to know really little about animals! Look at the picture! Cow or horse? Dog or pig? No surprise the dogs seem to be concerned... 😅

We have a question for future studies: should we consider the seek of prestige as a continuous variable (the more you seek prestige, the more you like Pedigree companions)? Or should we consider that "prestige seekers" are a profile, a separate category?
Perhaps we should dive on this!

... but, when you are against buying companions and/or selective brreeding, then adopting a mongrel (mixed breed) will be the best options.
In both cases, the election reflexes our own values. We explore this in our book.

We consider that the conclusions the authors reach fit with ours, as not everyone looks for the same companion (the relationship may have different meanings).
And those conclusions can be read in two ways: when prestige is important for you, you choose "prestigious" companions...

In the last paper we published, we found four profiles (categories) of companions' statuses:
1. Human-like (such as offsprings)
2. Member of multispecies families
3. Pet
4. Objectivization (such as an object of prestige)
As far as we know, the latest receives the least attention in literature.
