I do too. I grew up with these people. I know exactly. But this is not my area of research- I am hoping it is someone’s, because it’s critically important atvthis juncture

That stuff is so weird

More complicated than that. There are UK evangelicals who are very firmly on the left

Wrong Sc/hofield. Fine.

My actual point was that political UK evangelicals are different and that these need to be understood. But certain sectors of politically aligned evangelicals in the UK are absolutely not benign, Paul Marshall included. I don’t have a political issue as such with HTB.

Yes but she’s US based. UK evangelicals are very different, as is their relationship with politics. The nuances are important to understand.

Are you referring to me in that sentence?

It is the kind of thing that absolutely does not work in the UK, where people are dramatically less religious

I am not sure it’s anyone, but it jolly well should be because there is an urgent need for a sociology of the nexus between conservative evangelicalism and right-wing politics in this country, given the influx of huge amounts of dark money to disrupt our democracy. Hit me up if that’s you.

Honest to god, pun both intended and not intended, it is about time that SOMEBODY who understands UK evangelicals and their much more complicated relationship with politics than their US Christian nationalist brethren, started commenting. Because otherwise it’s all bullshit.

Absolutely not. The Salvation Army were always concerned with feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and clothing the poor. They still are.

Men of England, heirs of Glory,
Heroes of unwritten story,
Nurslings of one mighty Mother,
Hopes of her, and one another;

Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number,
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you –
Ye are many – they are few.

These people so dramatically misunderstand British culture it’s embarrassing. They can only be paid to do this β€” they would die of shame otherwise even if they believe this crap

Very much looking forward to the point in time when LGBTQ+ people will officially be treated equally with heterosexuals throughout the Church of England.

Grateful for my local parish church which is fully affirming.

Tawny owl

Tawny owl

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking β€œSo when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧡

The popular music thing was because I went to conservatoire where the poppiest people got was serious jazz; I didn’t have a car so didn’t listen to radio. I probably passively consumed via shopping centre sound systems but didn’t know anything.

Me neither. I was too young to see it in the cinema, and we didn’t have VHS at home

I didn’t listen to any popular music 1991-95 and didn’t have a TV 1998-2009 (though I did watch DVD box sets and eventually iPlayer)
