What I can say with certainty is that no matter how long it takes, I am going to be here, fighting at every opportunity for the things I know matter not only to my community, but the entire state 🙏🏾

There is no question this budget process has been unusual, but I am grateful we were able to take a step that protects state departments and employees until the budget is passed and signed into law.

Good morning everyone, hope all is well.

Around 1:30am this morning we passed a Continuing Resolution, also known as a CR, to fund our state govt at current levels for 1 week to avoid a state government shutdown until we get a final budget done sometime later this week for the Governor to sign.

I also want to thank the first responders who rushed to the scene to extinguish the burning church, who sought to shield Michiganders from harm, and who worked tirelessly to deliver medical aid to churchgoers. Thank you for your service, today and everyday.

Every Michigander, and every person across the country, should be free to attend their community’s faith services without fearing for or risking their lives. We must come together in unity against the heartbreaking violence that has become all too present in our lives.

I am devastated to hear about the horrific attack on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc earlier today. My family and I are praying for those killed, and those whose loved ones were killed or injured as they attended services at their church.

P.S. This Wednesday, Oct. 1st is the budget deadline. If we don't pass a comprehensive budget for the Governor to sign, unfortunately our state will go into a shutdown.

And met with my home union SEIU and their healthcare workers who are advocating due to the federal healthcare cuts, for us to pass a budget at the state level that adequately funds healthcare for the workers and patients they serve.

Also saw our teachers from AFT and MEA who are pushing for us to get a good school aid budget done that doesn't cut free breakfast & lunch, after school programs, and many other services that we fought for.

Yesterday, was a packed day full of meetings, including with Goodwill of Greater Detroit advocating to keep funding for their amazing Flip the Script program that we championed in the past 2 budgets.

P.S. As Republicans continue to cut government jobs on all levels and pass terrible economic policies that will more than likely sabotage us into a "self-inflicted recession," more folks will have to rely on our unemployment system.

That change might seem small on paper, but in reality, it makes a big difference. For workers who aren’t at the maximum benefit — especially minimum wage earners and low-wage workers — this is real money that helps keep families afloat while they search for new employment.
