The past few mornings, bright orange fritillary butterflies playing in my front yard have multiplied. Two, six, twelve. The weather in Oakland has cleared and warmed. Blue skies, syrupy sun, warm breezes. The yard is verdant. Sage, asters, phacelia. Joy feels selfish.
