Unearthing the treasure chest of Big Joe Thompson The story of one of the greatest rugby league players you've never heard of.

In 1932, Joe Thompson boarded a ship from Southampton for his third Ashes tour of Australia carrying a leather Victor suitcase.

Almost a hundred years later, I had a rummage through the same suitcase to see what he brought back.

Season 36, Issue 06

25 years have passed since #LUFC swaggered their way to a #UCL semi-final, so we wrote about it:

- Eirik Bakke interview
- Joe Brennan speaks to Gaizka Mendieta

Plus asking for divine help, conquering Rome, best XI faced and more!

Jesse Marsch needs to find a new hobby • The Square Ball Now that Jesse Marsch has resorted to using spreadsheets in defence of his Leeds United tenure, we think it's time he finds something better to do with his time.

Cracking article by @cmcmenamy.bsky.social of @thesquareball.net
Taking an unfashionable cue from Will Smith by saying, "Keep my club's* name out of your f*ing mouth!".

I've never known a 3-0 away win feel as grim as that Watford game.

Gary Jarman (R) spars with Andy Lee. They are both wearing yellow boxing gloves.

'“I used to hang out with [Amy Winehouse] and jam sometimes, late nights at her house, doing the exact same stuff that she was doing." Within months of Winehouse’s death, Gary Jarman had enrolled at a boxing gym.'

Probably for the best we couldn’t hear the echo in the studio. Would’ve only added to the sense I was having a breakdown

Can only apologise for the shambles of last night’s Match Ball. Can’t promise this makes much more sense either.

You can read the original story from four years ago here.

What started off as a daft pub conversation turned into one hell of a rabbit hole trying to work out whether MF DOOM lived in Leeds or not.

MF DOOM: Long Island to Leeds - Introducing... MF DOOM: Long Island to Leeds - BBC Sounds How did reclusive rap icon MF DOOM come to live in obscurity in the north of England?

I make a little appearance in the final episode of this new podcast series on MF DOOM and how he ended up living in Leeds.

The soundtrack is by Matt Helders, so I'm counting it as fulfilling my childhood dream of collaborating with Arctic Monkeys.

@bobbydazzler69.bsky.social Not sure about ones that cover both. For NRL I really like Boom Rookies. For Super League, erm, we're recording the first 2026 episode of Real Class tomorrow😉

Good thinking. Nobody will ever figure we're after, say, a striker.
