I played through the base game of Quake 1 earlier this year and was surprised at how well it aged!!!

Quake. I don't think anyone will argue against it being an absolute PC gaming classic. Taking the core concept of Doom, adding a frantic pace and moving the gameplay into true 3D with a grim, creepy atmosphere and sound design and music by Trent Reznor, it's still incredibly fun today.
