Today’s shockingly hostile resignation of Trudeau’s deputy prime minister/finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, his once closest cabinet minister, is a dramatic moment that signals the further decay of the crumbling zombie that is the Trudeau administration.

It is kind of shocking how unresponsive our democracy can be.

I think its fair to say we have at least two federal leaders keeping things going selfishly out of fear of an inevitable loss. And the result is Canadians forced to wait for a government no one wants to simply expire. Unreal.

Canadian MP Charlie Angus just sounded off on Trump.

"So yes, they are our neighbors, but we've stood up to them. We're in a different situation with Trump, a convicted predator, who's seriously undermining the democratic process in the US. And he thinks he can just push us around. He insults us."

Some of this is starting to change with @jagmeetsingh.ca but it might be too little too late if an Election gets called.

I first voted NDP under Tom Mulcair, whose smiley-pivot lost him an election that 'Angry Tom' could've won imho.

Time will tell, but feels like that is happening again.

It is not the policy wins that are shaping their fortunes, its that they have a smiles and progress-type hippy image when the public wants an angry working class brow-beater.

The problem the NDP face is their image—defined by an identifying with college kids and campus protests over working class communities.

Their policy wins were not big enough (dental/pharmacare was not universal, and most Canadians are still on employer insurance) to constitute an image change.

I don't agree. I think the NDP have clearly got some wins out of the now-dead supply and confidence agreement, and their support for the GST relief is more or less supporting a small piece of a policy they have touted for a while now—and that the Liberals seem to have yoinked.

This morning I read an interesting article from a Royce Koop at the Winnipeg Sun, who seems to do some interesting work.

The thesis seems to be that @jagmeetsingh.ca is taking a gamble with supporting the Liberal's on some votes/policies.

This is going to be brutal for Canadians and the US.

The usual silver lining of a weak looney is USD buying power increases and CAD goods become attractive to US business. With tariffs, its lose-lose-lose-lose.

We both pay more for goods.
We both become less competitive in each other's markets.

Probably too little, too late since it starts Dec 14. But the GST is a regressive tax. I don't hate any of the moves against it by the three big parties tbh.
