When fossil fuels such as the coal in this bag are burned, small particles called fly ash are released into the air. Crawford Lakeโ€™s sediments capture a dramatic increase in fly ash in the 1950s, coinciding with rapid industrialization locally and globally.

While on holiday in southern France, the photographer had been watching flamingos in the Camargue. She was fascinated by their foraging behaviour as they moved gracefully through the shallow, saline wetlands, filter feeding for molluscs and crustaceans.โ
