Starting off year 15 with building connections and collaboration. #wheredoesyourpiecefit #iteachmath
Today in math class we are using my trip to the strawberry farm to find the best purchase option. #iteachmath
Brought my kids magna-tiles into the classroom today to help explore and visualize volume and surface area of 3D shapes. #iteachmath
We had a fun day in math today! We calculated the probability of my own children leaving an event happy. Students were very engaged and thoughtful to suggest a bag of cotton candy may fix any disappointment! #iteachmath
Warm up question of the day, “What do you call a snake that measures 3.14 meters long?”… a Pi-thon! The genuine giggles of a few totally made the day! #iteachmath
The social studies teacher had students create a haiku about one of their classes. This student’s submission made my day! #iteachmath
Can a 7th grader keep pace with a gold medalist for 30 meters? The answer was shocking to many, that even at a full sprint they could only keep up with the marathoner. #thinkingclassroom #iteachmath
Doing a little math play with my daughter. How would you compare these countries success? #iteachmath
I don’t know why this is bugging me so much, but this seems like a minuscule amount of juice to be bragging about even for flavored water. How many slices of each would you put in? How does it compare these amounts? #iteachmath
I am using the Desmos curriculum so about 60% of the week students are on computers, ideally with some scratch paper to accompany them. The other roughly 40% is mainly done VNPS, with some of that time for consolidation or note taking.
After my morning workout, I looked at my history of meters rowed and my math teacher brain kicked in. What do you notice/wonder? Is there any correlation/causation between dates and meters? What might the next 6 months of meters rowed look like? #iteachmath
Finally tried 2 students for 1 computer for my @desmosclassroom lesson today. Students did not disappoint. Heard lots of great ideas being shared. Not sure why it took me so long to try it out. #iteachmath
All those questions came up in class. Definitely don't need... but if its "free" its for me!😁 Or one sweet student had the idea to use the shirt as a gift for someone who might need it.
My wife and I have very different opinions on how to handle this situation. I am glad to see students agree more with me! What would you do? #iteachmath
Thanks for adding it! I don’t have any link or other activities yet. It was just cool to see some of the other ideas people had to connect math and sports.
Of course! I didn’t realize that collection existed.
I edited the data and activity from @
Desmos Classroom’s culminating Unit 3 Describing Data activity to meet student interests. I think I may have had more fun looking for correlations in Jayson Tatum's data. #iteachmath teacher.desmos.com/activitybuil...
What are your best strategies to have students stop number plucking and make sense of a problem? I have been trying to give more thinking tasks and numberless word problems but feel like I am still doing too much lifting. Do I just need to be more patient? #iteachmath
Sometimes students know how to brighten your days! #iteachmath
Sometimes all it takes is reviewing your class norms TOGETHER. That made today a really productive and good day. ♾️
Loved using the stronger and clearer routine when introducing circles.
curriculum. Students showed so much persistence and growth. I also love playing the "dummy" and trying to create exactly what they write. #iteachmath
Excited to start digging into Desmos in 3D!!! I was anxious at first, but the quests help guide my creativity and thinking!
I like the phrasing of “why would we rather”. My go to phrasing has been, “could you also write it as a multiplication”, or “remember we are looking for a multiplier”. Both come across to students as me telling them they are wrong which isn’t the full case.
I’ve had an internal conflict for years about constant of proportionality and how to best support student thinking. What are your next moves to students who do this thinking below? What is right, where do they have a misconception? #iteachmath #mtbos
Hi! I am middle school math educator, who considers himself a Desmos and Thinking Classroom enthusiast. I am excited to share some success stories and to learn from others too in this #Iteachmath community.
