That's what kills me about this too. They are "forbidden" in the same way that a geocentric model of the solar system is forbidden, that is, it's stupid and you're stupid for thinking it. And if anyone needs a quick and easy tip for sniffing out bullshit, just look for "evolutionary psychology".

Yes. And Lord of the Flies is not a book about how children behave if left alone. It’s (among other things) about very damaged-on-purpose English children.

When I was 12 I was afraid of the violent chaos of boys who spat slurs at girls, and the bot-like girls who policed each other’s looks, and the teachers who didn’t care as long as they were unchallenged and “our” sports teams won. I don’t understand how it’s edgy to align with that.

Screenshot of a Tweet by @TheChiefNerd inclusing an interview with Sam Altman.

The text in the Tweet says:
SAM ALTMAN: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever.

It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

They all really are the most awful pack of grifting, thieving cunts.

A lot of people who work in kitchens have been through some things already. Lateral violence among abused people is not unusual. When you don’t see a life without it, being proud of one’s pain tolerance becomes a makeshift defence.

Love a good story of rich tech bros being told they & their money can go fuck themselves.

Thinking about their reaction to people turning down millions they would jump on & being confused as to why since money is all they know is something I love just a little bit more.

At Christmas in the 70s we were given books of Lifesavers. Regular, sours, wint o-green, butterscotch, tropical fruit, and 3 more.

Illustration of a pinkish-beige pigeon perched on a small, detailed branch with moss. The pigeon has a black band across its neck, wings shaded in gray and beige, and a long tail with a distinctive dark band near the end. Its feet are pink and gripping the branch. The artwork is delicate and precise, showcasing the bird’s smooth feathers and rounded head with a soft pink eye. The text below identifies the bird as "Colombe Blonde" (Columba risoria), emphasizing its pale coloration. The background is plain and off-white, highlighting the bird as the main subject.

“while providing new ways for influential voices to reach new audiences.”

How fucking dare. Implying they were only trying to *help* the writers, who never asked them to do that. That’s like making uninvited slop porn of me and then suggesting I should appreciate the extra visibility.

“We want the people behind those perspectives to have greater control over whether their name is used, “

(I can think of a way to give them total control over how their names are used: don’t impersonate them)/

In accepting his WGA award, Stephen Colbert named and said something funny about each of his 20 writers so they’d be hired when his show ends 🥹

Don’t know if there’s any truth to this but a chef friend of mine blames Napoleon for creating an abusive standardized workflow in both cuisine and ballet.

Abusers who aren’t good at it *are* injured or in jail already. The remainder are abusers who are good at it, a skill that includes isolating victims ahead of time.

When people stop hiring you because you suddenly have a reputation for insubordination or substandard work, you can’t sue over that.

Just to be clear, I’m only talking about the reading. Disabilities don’t turn someone into a horrible person.

As someone who has it, I’m seeing someone ashamed of his undiagnosed/untreated ADHD. And I’m saying that as someone who was hyperlexic until the puberty hormones kicked in.

Yes. Have them replace the first person pronoun with the brand name.

I don’t know if they would do this, but there are so many non-verbal games and activities that delight little kids at different stages. If language could be lifted out of the equation for a bit, just to get that bond going?

It really is key though. It’s a sick uneven game of chicken, where if they tough it out they might have to replace a worker, and if you tough it out a child in your care could get hurt or neglected.
