Nunavut’s hunt for healthy food
Across Nunavut, food insecurity continues to affect daily life. For many Inuit, the answer lies not in the grocery store, but on the land.

Protectors of Aqviqtuuq
The northern tip of mainland Canada is a paradise of caribou, polar bears and Arctic char as yet undisturbed by mining. The residents of Taloyoak, Nunavut, are fighting to keep it that way.

Exploring the inner lives of sperm whales with Shane Gero
The biologist talks whale reserves in the Caribbean and an international effort to communicate with sperm whales
Shane Gero has spent 20 years studying sperm whale language, family ties and culture (yep, whales have culture too!). Gero is now working with Project CETI to decode the whales' language using AI. I spoke to him (in human, not whale) ahead of the opening of the world's first sperm whale reserve. 🐋

Canadian Geographic works every day to tell Canada's story — from Manitou Beach's last standing polka hall, to ice grizzlies co-existing with people in Klushu, Yukon, to the building of the Hôtel de Glace in Québec City (and that's just the next issue!). But we need your help to do it...

Celebrating Mi-Carême in the Magdalen Islands
Experiencing a centuries-old Acadian tradition with food, drink, and family in Quebec’s Îles-de-la-Madeleine
@cangeo managing editor Michela Rosano experienced a truly unique slice of Acadian life when she visited the Magdalen Islands to celebrate Mi-Carême or Mid-Lent. Bizarre costumes, homemade wine, fruits de mer, and, of course, a snowstorm.
