AND ANOTHER THING, with some takes of Frankenstein being a metaphor for post partum, I do think it’s fucked up to call someone dealing with his equivalent of that a ‘monster’.

Frankenstein is not a deadbeat dad, the creature is not his son— that is a MOTHER AND DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP DYNAMIC.

And there’s many others who felt like there were a lot of deeper meanings in this version of the story- and that’s great! Unfortunately, I didn’t see it or feel anything for this movie other than disappointment and the acknowledgement that it was very pretty.

The sudden forgiveness at the end without any show of growth or contemplation and then suddenly being like “oh yeah I guess we are father and son” and then everyone turns to the screen and tells you that the real monster is humans (sarcasm/ref)

No disrespect to GDT, wonderful creative!! I’m disappointed because there is more story to Frankenstein than just spoon feeding us pretty scenery and vibes and actors and telling us rather than showing us the character development

He is a WELL LOVED, TRULY ADORED freak. He blames himself for the death of his beloved Henry Clerval, he mourns the loss of everyone and basically tries to send himself to jail after Henry’s death especially until his father comes to him and encourages him to get it together and come home.

Like- there was a well-loved and beautifully bright minded boy who descended into mania to find the source of life and recreate so that one day others may not have to deal with a loss as great as death after the death of his own mother. The tragedy IS NOT that he’s some loner freak—

I know I’m saying the same thing over and over again but imagine you learn that a well renowned creative is going to adapt your special interest into a movie and claim it’s the most accurate adaptation while excluding what felt like key components that made Victor’s character SO complex.

Don’t even get me started once again on William looking at the camera and spoonfeeding us that ‘Victor is the monster’.

My friend watched GDT Frankenstein and I’m so ecstatic she had similar views about it. Very beautiful movie, but simply not the best version of Frankenstein there can be.

Like, where is Victor’s loving family? Where is Henry Clerval?
