Miss Nova I think is still a tad skittish of me but she has started to sit on her perch in my bedroom in the mornings waiting for me to wake up...I clutch my heart and fall to my knees

Since I've learned that Cosmo does have hangry aggression I've been trying to keep a closer eye on their spats. I read that cat play is usually reciprocated between cats and she still runs back to her safe spot even though her tail is up. I don't dare to hope that she is playing with him now...

It's been 1.5 months now since I adopted Miss Nova. She mostly lives in the cat tree in my living room but has gotten better at venturing out and even running Cosmo over for food 😆 They still have small spats daily but I swear recently her tail is up while Cosmo chases her. What does this mean!

Ohh gotcha, tysm!! Yeah I feel like I don’t usually see carbs listed on nutrition labels so did not understand how to tell 😭

Cosmo chased Nova again just now and I swear her tail was up while running. She did just run back to the cat tree and didn’t reciprocate so I assume she is still afraid…?

How do you tell how many carbs in a fiod? I’m worried about switching to grainless food as Cosmo had trouble without fiber before, but for example comparing Hills to Purina One (which is not grainless), how do I tell whether Purina One may have less carbs (and thus be a good transition option?)

Hmm I see. He def drinks water and is a big water drinker so not worried there. How exactly do I tell if a food is high in carbs? I have struggled with his weight for yrs even though I shouldn’t be overfeeding him and I play with him daily. Is the fat % threshold something to worry about too?

Yah I feel like switching Cosmo to a near 60% protein food from the 30% he’s been eating is a big jump…I am really concerned about his (and Nova’s) weight cuz I play with both daily and they shouldn’t be overeating but they have gained weight. Do you know what fat % threshold I should look out for?-

I feel like a lot of what this consultant told me goes against common advice I’ve heard from peers/vets/Jackson Galaxy and she’s just this random lady with some reviews I paid $300 for so I’m like 😭 Like I thought playing with one cat in front of the other was a common integration tactic?????

Does anyone know/have thoughts on Dr. Elsey’s dry kibble…? The consultant recommended this brand but I have never heard of them….

I appreciate the advice! I’m happy to switch to a higher protein food, but in the past when I did it caused constipation with Cosmo that even miralax didn’t help with. The vet said the high protein was rough to digest so I went back to a higher fiber food. But with supplements I assume it’ll be ok?

I’ve been giving pumpkin to Nova but Cosmo does not like it 😂 I’ve been thinking I can switch to a higher protein food and then give Cosmo probiotic treats + psyllium husk? I’m worried cuz in the past I did switch to a higher protein food but it caused constipation that even miralax couldn’t fix

Mhm that’s what the consultant recommended to do - buy a high protein food and then just add psyllium husk or treats that promote gut health

Cosmo suffers from constipation which is another reason why I used Hill’s as it has higher fiber but I can just supplement fiber from elsewhere I think and have him eat higher protein food…

Does anyone have any thoughts about Hill’s Science Diet dry food? The cat consultant said Hill’s is awful and is the reason why Cosmo is overweight (despite maintaining ~200 calories daily) and gets hangry, which triggers aggression at Nova. However my vet heavily recommends Hill’s so I’m like ????

Had the pet behavior consultation today where Cosmo and Nova did get into a spat on camera and the consultant told me it’s because Cosmo was hangry (it was close to feeding time)…so it is aggression and not play 😭 At least I know now!

Thinking about the fact I caught Nova with her tongue sticking out after she finished playing yesterday…the first cat blep I’ve ever seen…it was sooooo cute 😭
