As always, this took a small village and I'm extremely grateful to mentors, friends, and old colleagues, to new colleagues at UNIRI, and to the Croatian 'returning scientists' scheme that made this possible. And now? Come visit me in Rijeka :)

It feels a bit surreal to end my long chain of post-docs, but I'm happy and excited to work where I live and contribute to something more permanent. Also, have I mentioned the dog? 🤩

In her "Empire, Environment, and the Judson Legacy: Reflections from the first Central European History Convention in Vienna," Daša Ličen discusses the most exciting work at the July Convention that reframed thinking about power, empire, + money beyond the man-nature binary. cehc.hypotheses.org/270

I'm taking a wee break from work, but this article that I really enjoyed working on is published. It will be part of a great SI edited by Ivan Rajković and Jelena Vasiljević. I hope it contributes to the growing interest in human-nature politics in Yugoslavia.
We are very excited to share the CfP for the Pollen26 conference in Barcelona (29 June-3 July) and invite submissions to our panel: Political ecologies of wildfires in Mediterranean Climate Zones: Beyond the Firefighting Trap

"Girlhood At War" made it home!
Unlike anything I’ve written before, this book is a personal story about growing up during Serbia's war against Kosovo and about finding myself, at 14, translating for US NATO troops in its aftermath. (Yes, the young girl in these pictures is me.)
My brain actually hurts from the first photo. If anyone can point me to the politically correct elites who are ‘the establishment’ in Croatia, I’m happy to establish.
It's totally a chant against the establishment elites, who just coincidentally turned up to enthusiastically chant it as well and to take photos with the person leading the chant.
Čestitam i naručujem :) Nadam se da si lijepo proslavila!
My article finally has an issue! A lot has changed in Serbia since I submitted this in 2021, but my point remains: young people are capable political actors who have their own ideas of what the future should look like.
eat interesting things and report back :)

Po osebujnim istupima, apsolutnom kontrolom baš svega u Belišću i nepodnošljivom smradu (doslovno) koji je njegova vlast dovela u ovo mjesto. Taj smrad ga je i koštao zadnjih izbora.

Apparently talking about embassies burning in the 1960s is far more triggering to some people than watching tens of thousands die on livestream (for almost two years) today.
Please read the long version, someone actually emailed Milorad Dodik — I guess comic relief in a horrible situation?
