In a company that won’t even say the name of another promotion unless they buy it, the Danhausen phenomenon basically never happened. He’s not a guy with a lizard in his mouth and a name with zero subtext. He’s a niche of a niche in an already niche form of entertainment.
Danhausen also only worked as well as he did in AEW (at least at first) because its audience actually prides itself on having a passing knowledge of other shows and enjoying the full breadth of the medium. Danhausen’s popularity among wrestling fans felt organic three years ago.
Like I can’t imagine the average modern day WWE fan who can’t be bothered to react to Maxine dying in a ring post spot or solid mat work looks at Danhausen and goes “I get this, this is great.”
Look, it’s not that I think Danhausen can’t work in WWE eventually. I just think his shtick is better suited for smarkier crowds willing to embrace wrestling’s campier side with a wink and a nod.
Resident Evil Requiem may not be a genre-defining masterpiece, but it’s another strong entry in the legendary horror franchise.
