If it's a spin-off, wouldn't they all need new contracts anyway?
Well, that's one way to make sure the episode title isn't exactly the same as the Discovery episode, I guess?
Everyone but Paul Giamatti: "I get to be on a panel with *Paul Giamatti*?!?"
Paul Giamatti: "I get to be on a panel with **all of these Star Trek people**?!?"
The "handshake deal" is per Star Trek Creator pp. 254-255.
You do mention at www.trekbbs.com/threads/cast... Doohan's guarantee of 5/13.
Though you also mention Kelley's and Whitney's deals as "including pilot", and they weren't in either pilot, so I'm not sure if that's a mistake.
...or were they only contracted for the pilot? Snarky comments from Inside Star Trek aside, the "sell sheet" certainly gives the impression they would be series regulars.
Though I've also read that Doohan only had a "handshake deal" for 5/13.

@facttrek.com In startrekfactcheck.blogspot.com/2013/06/exit... you commented on the options provided for the cast of "The Cage".
Something I've often wondered about but haven't been able to get a straight answer to: Were Paul Fix, Andrea Dromm, and Lloyd Haynes given options on their contracts...
While I suspect you probably would've already posted them if they existed, I figured I'd check to be sure. Back in the 90's I thought they sent out press kits with photos and character bios every season. @trekcore.com
Hey @trekcore.com , I love browsing through the digital press kits you uploaded for Discovery and Picard's first seasons. Did they make these types of character bios available for any of the later shows (incl #StarfleetAcademy) or even later seasons of DSC/PIC?

Say what you will about #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy, it's consistently in the top 10 (well, top 11 one week) shows when it comes to the metrics of viewers actually paying attention to it per TVision

I love Geordi, but he never chillaxes to more than a medium level
"Sitting" was primarily in reference to the first pic, but I admit he's more "leaning" on the console than "sitting" on it. I think it walks the line enough to use either term though, at least that's how I'm justifying it.
You see a console. He sees a rock he can stand on for a photo op.
How, may I ask you, could one buy a command-level Starfleet officer who's always sitting in unprofessional ways and putting their feet on stuff?
I'm referring, of course, to William T. Riker. Not sure who else I could be referring to.
#StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy?
One thing I love about #StarTrek is that no matter what crazy detail you're curious about, there's a good chance that there's someone else is curious about it and has researched it and even written a short dissertation about it.
Also, there's a decent chance that person is @gaghyogi49.bsky.social.
Kira tells Sisko that if her request isn't worthy the prophet won't grant it, but the last person who made a request wanted to go back in time and kill Kirk with a tribble, so maybe they aren't that picky?
Also last time they went back they brought the orb with them, so not sure how she gets back.
I'm told new episodes of #StarTrek are too emotionally-driven and have nonsenical plots, and that's why I'm rewatching the classics.
Right now I'm watching the #DeepSpaceNine where Kira uses the magic orb to travel back in time and plant a bomb because Dukat called to say he slept with her mom.
Look, I don't want to give ammunition to people saying that modern #StarTrek series aren't canon, but I have to admit that you might have a strong reason for only considering TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY worth watching if your love for Trek is based on whether the series made use of a live-action iguana.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to watching the episode where the runabout got really, really tiny and then fought off some Jem'Hadar or something.
This aged better than I thought it would
Revivals for those who are curious. Most didn't last more than 1-2 years.
Saved by the Bell (2020-2021) (two seasons)
90210 (2008-2013) (5 seasons; the biggest success by far)
Melrose Place (2009-2010) (one season)
BH90210 (2019) (one season)
I'm coming right from seeing an Instagram post complaining by comparing it to:
Saved by the Bell (1989-1993l)
Beverly Hills 90210 (1990-2000)
Dawson's Creek (1998-2003)
Melrose Place (1992-1999)
Sweet Valley High (1994-1997)
Admittedly several of these have had revivals, but most were short-lived.
And, yes, I know there was a 90210 reboot, but even that went off the air 13 years ago.
Minor bonus points if anyone is actually calling it Star Trek: Nancy Drew, but most of the people complaining probably don't know of the CW drama from Noga Landau... the showrunner of #StarfleetAcademy
Like or hate #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy, it's really telling when people dismiss the show by comparing it to youth-oriented shows that went off the air 25-30 years ago.
Calling it Star Trek: Riverdale would seem at least moderately more "in touch" than calling it Star Trek: 90210.
!
@kbachelder.bsky.social You need to hear this Nathan Fillion story if you haven't already. 5 minutes in.

Weird of Critical Drinker to describe his own Star Trek review videos, but from what I've seen of his work the description seems accurate.
As much as this should all be baseline stuff, it seems vanishingly rare on social media. It doesn't get as much attention as people shouting at each other, so I'll do what little I can to acknowledge it and give it a boost.
Kudos for flagging a legitimate concern, acknowledging when the evidence shows that it wasn't a problem in practice, and for offering a proper apology to the artist you unintentionally besmirched, staying reasonably polite the whole time.
I'm going to generously assume this was a private in-joke that he never expected anyone else to actually see, but I cringed at that too.
