FIVE! Santa Clara County VTA board just voted unanimously to opt into the regional transportation ballot measure! Now all 5 counties in the core regional system are in! So much organizing, advocacy, education, negotiation to get this point.

VTA Route 60 is free to ride from the airport and has been since it replaced the old free Airport Flyer route 10 in 2019.

Should I post pics of Petaluma Transit running paratransit cutaways on their network becaus their real buses are falling apart/ Union City Transit with leased cutaways because some of their old Orion buses gave out

This is basically guaranteed to be a citizens ballot measure (50%+1 threshold instead of 2/3+1)

The East Bay just got some good, and much-needed, transit news OPINION: β€œGood news is in short supply. But on Sunday, AC Transit is launching its new Realign bus network β€” and that’s something to celebrate,” Evan Tschuy writes.

I wrote an op ed for the Chronicle about how important AC Transit's new redwoods service is, with the agency taking a bet on transit as a way of life, not just a commuting tool:

Sounds like they could do with some eJests (seats up to 10 with room for 8 standees) - also no CDL required

I think AC's day cap helps a lot. I've definitely had days visiting SF where I've spent more on Muni with Clipper that I definitely should have just used cash to get a day pass (I don't have Muni Mobile)

AC Transit does have monthly passes (both a local and transbay one in fact!) www.actransit.org/fares

Actually even Sonoma County residents ("commute direction") will be screwed even worse! The last 101 bus leaving San Rafael for Santa Rosa is currently at 12:30a (past midnight). The last SMART train will leave Larkspur at 10p (San Rafael at ~10:07p). That is a near 2.5hr reduction in service span!

05.08.2025 07:12 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

As for SMART. The current last southbound 101 bus leaving Santa Rosa is scheduled ~10:15pm. The new "expanded" SMART has the last southbound train leaving Santa Rosa Downtown at ~8:30pm. That's at least a 1hr45 reduction in service span!! "Just take rideshare" cannot be an acceptable alternative.

Shorter 101 only going to Novato and not Sonoma County and Santa Rosa* sorry. Conversely, the planned 30 min (15 min peak) service on the new 101 would really benefit southern Marin connections and riders if it stopped at those 150 bus pads and Marin City.

Here's exactly how south Marin riders will be screwed. The obvious solution is to simply merge the 150 into the 101 and have the new 101 stop at all the bus pads south of San Rafael. GGT's own timetable shows only a 10 min time penalty, which is acceptable imo with a shorter 101 not going to Novato.

Absolute dumpster fire, especially for Southern Marin and counter commute riders from Sonoma County. A bunch of local Marin Transit routes connect to the 101 corridor and currently have a transfer at a bus pad to an SF bound bus about to lose their connection without the 150.

Conversely you have the Taoyuan Airport MRT which does indeed have super uneven spacing with very close stops to serve employment and urban centers on route, much like BART. However it is true that new systems generally try to keep a more even stop spacing for efficiency purposes.

01.08.2025 19:00 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Especially the new express Metros trend like Guangzhou Line 18 have a similar function to WMATA or BART I'd argue

01.08.2025 18:29 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Stuff like the Taoyuan Airport MRT, through running on many Japanese railways where subway trains go out to rural towns at the periphery, Seoul Line 1, the ex-KCR network in HK absorbed into the MTR, or even Chinese Metros with lines going to the far out burbs and entire new express Metro lines

To further your point, commuter rail and subway are not mutually exclusive and can be one and the same, as seen a lot in newer systems in Asia.

Many similar views up and down the California (and likely the rest of the West Coast) but probably not for the same lengthy duration! Personally reminds me of the samTrans 117 bus.
