Lime Bikes also revealed data showing morning trips up 74% during the strike compared to earlier in the month, and that during the strike, one rider had passed through 9 boroughs, clocking 23km in one ride, while one of their bikes delivered over 200km of rides during the strike. 4/4

TfL's case study goes a bit wonky when it says protected cycle tracks are mainly "in areas with low traffic". It's true that roads with "4 lanes, 2 have been converted into bus or tram lanes." But Oslo often has cycle tracks parallel to main roads, metres away, as well as some tracks on road. 3/3
19.09.2025 15:10 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A pie chart showing the difference between Oslo's mode share and the "national" (ie Norwegian) mode share. In Oslo, driving = 20% compared to 50% nationally and mode shares for "on foot" are very different (38% versus 23%) as are cycling (7% versus 4%) and public transport (26% versus 11%) etc.
Oslo has 100 wide-ranging measures, not just 20mph. Key is target to cut motor traffic 30% by 2030 (from 2015 level). Very similar to London's approach, but going faster? Oslo's mode share for cars is about 1/2 London's already. TfL highlights Oslo taking "space... from cars" as core. Hmm, TfL? 2/3

Next to this a quote from Anni Sinnemรคki, Deputy Mayor of the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Division: "The decision to reduce the general speed limit to 30km per hour (19mph) in 2019 was not an easy one to make. The City Board voted on it. But I can say that afterwards no one has regretted it."
TfL has snuck out new case studies showing how Oslo & Helsinki have reduced fatal collisions to zero ('Vision Zero'). Mayor @london.gov.uk & @willnorman.co.uk aim for London to get there by 2041. Right at bottom of page: tfl.gov.uk/corporate/sa...

Issue here is, as is often case, not just distracted driver but dangerous conditions for cycling on Battersea Bridge. Text from LCC's Women's Network reads: "A 27 year old woman, Bianca dos Santos, was killed cycling over Battersea Bridge in August 2023. This month, the HGV driver who pleaded guilty to causing her death by careless driving was given a suspended sentence and two year ban for failing to check his mirrors and being distracted both by his cab console and a phone call. Yet the presiding judge said dos Santos โcontributed to her own deathโ by riding up the inside of the lorry, as traffic moved forward slowly. โThe Highway Code says clearly that people cycling can pass stationary or slower-moving traffic on the left - dos Santos was cycling legally and sensibly. The issue here is, as is too often the case, not just a distracted driver but the dangerous conditions for cycling on Battersea Bridge. Rather than blame dos Santos, or cyclists, the judge should blame TfL, Kensington & Chelsea and Wandsworth councils for inaction that means thousands of cyclists who use this bridge daily continue to face dangerous conditions.โ
Bianca Dos Santos was crushed by a lorry crossing the notorious Battersea Bridge in August 2023.

London Ambulance Service also revealed collisions involving cycling were up for week, year-on-year. The good news is cycling levels went up far faster than collisions - so more (including yes, more wobbly) cycling = safer cycling. 3/3
