Join us on Wed., June 18th, for Esra Özyürek's talk on her book "Subcontractors of Guilt: Holocaust Memory and Muslim Belonging in Post-War Germany" at FU Berlin or online. Much looking forward to a timely debate!
Last week’s Queer Pharma workshop in Berlin brought together scholars, artists, and activists to explore experimentation as a queer practice.
Grateful for all who made this gathering so intellectually and affectively rich.

Gut!

Amazing turnout at the opening of our workshop on "Queer Pharma", which is about to begin with a keynote speech by @kanerace.bsky.social on "Queer Psychoactivity: Switching Frameworks", at the Schwules Museum in Berlin tonight!

Last week, we learnt that our university management is planning to cut our 3rd professorship in Social & Cult. Anthropology. This would have fatal consequences for our Institute at the FU Berlin and our discipline in the German speaking countries. We will struggle against this and hope for support!
Our institute is at risk due to the severe funding cuts affecting Berlin’s universities.
It’s no coincidence that, in a time of the alarming rise of the far right, it’s the already underfunded critical social sciences that are being hit hardest. Now is the time to stand up ✊
Our institute, the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at @freieuniversitaet.bsky.social is at risk due to budget cuts. In current times where we need more and not less critical social scientific perspectives, this is horrible, but also not entirely surprising news. Please spread the word!
My home institution is under threat:
The Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at @freieuniversitaet.bsky.social needs your solidarity. Planned budget cuts by the city and university leadership threaten the vital, critical work coming out of this space #SaveBerlinAnthropology

At a time when there is a shift to right-wing and authoritarian forces and an increasing hostility towards the social sciences and humanities, social and cultural anthropology is more important than ever:

Oh I would love to hear what your students make of the article! 🤩
How does PrEP stir both hope and worry in Germany? In this #OpenAccess article, @mxschnepf.bsky.social explores the mixed emotions around PrEP, care, and “carelessness” in Berlin’s sexual cultures and prevention landscape.
