“a 10% reduction in Canadian inbound travel could translate to $2.1 billion in lost spending and 140,000 lost jobs…The actual decline was 22%—more than double that hypothetical drop…last year’s 22% decline in visitation…economic hit of roughly $4.5 billion. www.forbes.com/sites/suzann...

In a democracy, this madman would've been removed from office long ago. Indeed, in a rule of law country he'd be in prison.
It is astounding this ambassador has not been thrown out of the country. The operative part of his title is "ass".
I believe the technical term for this is extortion
Having slept on it, it’s really set in that the Blue Jays loss last night was one of the most gutting pro sports losses I can remember. Absolutely brutal. My heart goes out to 🇨🇦
There hasn’t been an American diplomat posted here in 100 years who has been as unlikeable, as obnoxious, as egotistical as Mr. Hoekstra. He is a third-rate bully who imagines that any of us who exist outside of the U.S. are inferior. Bye-bye mon cowboy, eh @anitaoakvilleeast.bsky.social?

WHAT'S UP, DOC? (1972) has a stupendous gag density, Ryan O'Neal is at his hottest and gooberiest, introducing Madeline fuckin' Kahn, Babra as the blueprint for every manic pixie dream girl to follow!? This movie has it ALL
The president announces an arbitrary price hike on Americans because his feelings are hurt by an ad accurately quoting Ronald Reagan’s criticism of tariffs
1. Reagan’s speech is real
2. It’s public domain
3. Americans pay the cost of the added 10% tariffs, not Canadians
4. Trump keeps lying because he thinks you’re all too stupid to fact check
5. The average family will pay an extra $4900 this year because his tariffs
An embarrassingly obvious point, but...
This. Is. Illegal.
If anything like the rule of law were in force, Trump couldn't arbitrarily increase a tariff because he is annoyed.
In important and increasing ways, the rule of law in the US no longer exists.

I am not done being angry at the Ford government for cancelling supervised consumption sites, bike lanes and speed cameras. And now I have to muster the energy to fight this new attack on everyone who rents their home in Ontario.
I hate it here.

Ford just put every renter in Ontario into an even more precarious position. This is a clear and present danger to the 1.7 million renters in Ontario.
In particular, they want leases to no longer necessarily remain in effect indefinitely, so that landlords have more options for creating tenant turnover.
Current situation in left-hand column, proposal on the right:
The Ford government has announced plans to shred a bunch of tenant protections: news.ontario.ca/assets/files... (pdf, see p. 13-15)
What is even more amazing is how he got his "data"--crowd sourced from letters he sent to ~200 people. "Tell me when this arrives"
