And even with Villa they struggled a fair bit when they came back up, despite ambitious owners. And have hit a bit of a ceiling with spending because of their revenue limitations. Not sure how much that’s linked to their previous relegation but it must impact on things like sponsorship long term.
Yeh that may be it - maybe people don’t realise the drop off in revenue and just how hard a slog the Championship is if they don’t follow it. Maybe some have a romantic idea of when Juve got relegated and came back up but we’d lose all our best players and our Premier League and European reputation.
I agree, my gut instinct after Frank was we needed someone to make them feel good about themselves and build confidence. I’ve convinced myself with both Frank and Tudor that maybe they were better appointments than I thought. Think it’s clear the tough man schtick is just making them worse.
With Richy as hype man. Plus maybe Daddy Davies to do some actual match prep and training.
Find it bizarre that people’s dislike of the board or the players has blinded them to how bad it would be. Let’s have the inquest at the end of the season but survival is all that counts now. Largely agree with you on Dyche, my standards have just dropped so much!
I agree staying up is all that matters at this stage. If he could guarantee survival I’d stomach Dyche despite my dislike. People who think getting relegated would be a good thing because we could refresh our team are living in a fantasy land. It would be beyond catastrophic short and long term.
He ignored Richy too. I know you can read too much into these things but the Kinsky one in particular seems incredibly poor.
Who would you go for @jilllewis33.bsky.social or would you keep Tudor? I’m at a loss, think our legends are too long out the game (Redknapp), not suitable (Hoddle/ Klinsmann), too inexperienced (Defoe). Think we might have to give it to Mason but as much as I like him it hasn’t gone well previously.
Yeh he came to mind to me too. But I kind of think we need someone who can motivate and build the players confidence back up. I think we need the modern equivalent of Harry but not sure who that would be.
Probably right, I’m just not sure who we can get who is good enough to make a difference and who also wants to come to us. And it’s further instability - teams with 3 managers in a season rarely stay up. But if Tudor is as bad as he seems then sticking won’t help either.
True, wonder if it’s worth giving him Liverpool? We always lose anyway. Maybe we can appoint someone in the international break and hope we miraculously get some players back. Having something like the team Frank had at the start of the season and not playing terror ball might give us a slim hope.
By the way, responding on your main point I completely agree. Just unacceptable from a manager.
I agree, and you can blame us without it really affecting your career. But we need someone who could actually save us and I just don’t know who is available and would be willing to do it who is also capable of keeping us up. Think the board have screwed up by not getting rid of Frank early enough.
I love Harry but think it would probably be a disaster bringing someone who hasn’t managed in so long in, regardless of the coaches alongside him. I think ideally that kind of unifying figure would be great but not sure we have anyone as a previous manager or player who could do that for us now.
Torn on whether Tudor has to go or not. It’s been a disaster but who would want to come to us and teams that have 3 managers in a season generally don’t stay up.
Yeh fair play to him
Except without the sweet release at the end. Like having the procedure again and again.
Couldn’t believe when I saw that at half time. Incredibly poor man management. Guess Tudor doesn’t give a shit as he may not be here after this game.
Still don’t know who’d want the job though.
After Palace I still thought we’ve got to stick with him because who is going to come to us? And it’s pretty hard to turn sort out a car crash like our season quickly, especially with so many m missing. But we’ve conceded so many in these 4 games you can’t see how he can turn it around.
Yeh, feel if you’re going to blame anyone for it then it’s probably the manager. Although everyone seemed to be slipping, so hard to tell how much it was Kinsky being unsuitable/ not ready for the game and how much was just sheer bad luck. Brutal but probably had to be taken off.
Nice to score a goal at least
Sums up our season, 2 slips and 2 goals
So gutted that this feels like a minor footnote in our season, because of how dire our situation is in league. Would normally be a glamour tie for us and with quite an interesting lineup.
Like an advertising team talking about how great their ad campaign was while people are getting seriously ill from using a product. You might have genuinely done a really good job but now is not the time.
It’s something that wouldn’t normally register much and as you say fans aren’t the audience. It just smacks of hubris and tone deafness to me that any part of the organisation’s senior leadership would want to promote what they‘re doing when the core purpose of the organisation is in freefall.
Borthwick surely under pressure after this 6 Nations? We look so one dimensional and fragile. The decision making and discipline is so poor.
Yeh I’m sure it’s coincidental timing but if it was me I’d probably can it off. I don’t think us being successful commercially is why we’re so bad on the pitch. I think it’s the lack of good footballing leadership/ decision making. But plays into the narrative we only focus on commercial stuff.
I get that this stuff is probably necessary to a degree but surely they appreciate it’s incredibly tone deaf to promote this talk using this language right now? Feels like a food company giving a talk on how amazing their branding is while a load of people eating their products get food poisoning.
😂 To be fair to them, in this instance the fury would probably be justified - I find it pretty offensive someone senior at Tottenham explaining how they’ve revolutionised the concept of a football club while we sink towards relegation!
