03.02.2025 16:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0πΊπΈ nationalism has been split into two factions for a long while now. One seeks global primacy by economic, cultural and military means and has been the guiding principle of πΊπΈ foreign policy for a really long time. The other, its primitive little brother called expansionism, is now having a comeback.
26.12.2024 10:07 β π 21 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0Trump's annexation dreams are not motivated by personal gain. They are a symptom of a mentality that has been present (yet ignored) in πΊπΈ for a very long time. It's the same mentality that drove the annexations of π΅π & Hawaii as well as Manifest Destiny and so much more.
26.12.2024 10:07 β π 31 π 6 π¬ 2 π 0First, this isn't a lot of money for him. Second, he owes a shit ton to a shit ton of people, the π΅π¦ gov is his least concern in this regard. Third, an annexation wouldn't necessarily make the debt vanish. Panama's state or territory gov could claim it as the legal successor of the sovereign gov.
26.12.2024 10:07 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Yes, #Trump owes #Panamaπ΅π¦ millions in taxes. No, this has nothing to do with his annexation plans. A little thread𧡠on why and what's actually going on right now:
26.12.2024 10:07 β π 58 π 14 π¬ 2 π 0Danke, liebe GrΓΌΓe und frohe Weihnachten zurΓΌck!π
24.12.2024 22:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's satire, sadly. Right now everyone is keeping their heads down in order to not piss Trump off.
24.12.2024 21:28 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very good points! We will see how things turn out and I'll make sure to check back on this thread when the time has come.
10.12.2024 19:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks! But I'm afraid the further a prediction reaches the less useful it gets. Feel free to attempt yourself though, would be interested to hear your take.
10.12.2024 16:19 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yup, but definitely could've been either.
10.12.2024 14:06 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Quote: "The swamp is so drunk on power that the elites don't realize the ground is moving beneath their feet. [...] Their decadence will be their downfall. A new day is here."
Pub quiz! Who said it?
A) Palpatine, future Emperor of the galaxy, in Star Wars: Dawn of a New Era (1987)
B) Kevin Roberts, president of the #HeritageFoundation and leader of #Project2025, in Dawn's Early Light (2024)
Definitely realistic. Putin will try to squeeze out as much as possible, especially since he won't have to expect any resistance from Trump and Ukraine has next to no leverage.
09.12.2024 14:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If Putin agrees to such terms, everybody would get what they want. Except Ukraine, but they wouldn't have much of a choice.
Such a deal might work (temporarily) but it has the potential to threaten the integrity of international law. An aggressor cannot be allowed to annex territory like that.
I have no idea what Putin will do. But maybe he'll take the partial victory and use it for his propaganda while using the (most likely only temporary) peace to rebuild military capabilities. That's at least what many actual experts seem to believe.
09.12.2024 13:37 β π 27 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0NATO probably would. While they aren't fond of the idea, NATO leadership itself has already proposed membership for all unoccupied territories of Ukraine. But NATO isn't a monolith: Such a plan would need to be approved by a variety of actors with different agendas, including the likes of #Orban.
09.12.2024 13:37 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Though Trump refuses to talk about it publicly, he has hinted at a peace plan where #Russia would get to keep the annexed territories. #Zelenskyy has already stated the condition for that: NATO membership. But would NATO and Putin agree to such a deal?
09.12.2024 13:37 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Let's set the stage: Ukraine is struggling. They'd need more support not less. Trump wants to end the conflict to gain a victory, but doesn't care about Ukraine. #Putin wants what he'll always want: more. And #NATO wants less: less conflict, less responsibility, less talk about Ukrainian membership.
09.12.2024 13:37 β π 10 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0What's next for #Ukraine now that #Trump is taking over the White House? All predictions are flawed, but some are useful. Let me attempt one.
Trump has campaigned on bringing peace to Ukraine and hinted at how he wants to achieve it. But he is not the only relevant actor. A little thread.π§΅

08.12.2024 03:25 β π 71 π 27 π¬ 9 π 6I guess that sentiment is much more the result of frustration with the industry as a whole than of frustration with the actual quality of the games. Crunch, half-finished games at release, copyright models where you don't actually own the game anymore, etc create nostalgia for simpler times.
06.12.2024 22:16 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Milei named four of his dogs (who are all clones of his original dog, who allegedly is now a ghost who advises milei) Milton (in honor of Milton Friedman), Murray (in honor of Murray Rothbard), Robert, and Lucas (both named after Robert Lucas Jr.). He is obsessed with far right economists
06.12.2024 17:29 β π 31 π 8 π¬ 8 π 1Really interesting, especially considering Palin is a member of Assemblies of God as well. Maybe there's a connection between the groups?
06.12.2024 13:42 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is good, but to be more specific, Bolsonaro has direct ties to top apostles of the New Apostolic Reformation movement. Jim Garlow (right) & Mario Bramnick (left) showed up to congratulate Bolsonaro before he was inaugurated in 2018. NAR has ties to anti-democratic forces worldwide.

05.12.2024 19:12 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0These are just the reasons I consider these cases interesting when discussing the next US administration, not an actual analysis or anything.
If you're in the US: Stay strong. Bolsonaro, Pinochet and Salazar are gone and Milei and Trump will be too. Keep fighting. The world has your back.
Salazar: A libertarian Christian fundamentalist who appeased the Axis. He gave Portugal the lowest GDP of Western Europe. Things got so bad he had to ban emigration. The economy still hasn't fully recovered with the country still not having caught up to Western Europe 55 years after his death.
05.12.2024 16:01 β π 60 π 8 π¬ 4 π 0Pinochet, a CIA-backed dictator who killed 30k in his first year alone, let the Hayek-inspired Chicago Boys take over Chile's economy. The following recession was brutal. Afterwards the economy recovered slowly but was soon hit by another recession ousting the Boys.
05.12.2024 16:00 β π 34 π 5 π¬ 1 π 0Bolsonaro, who named Pinochet & Trump as his role models, is associated with Assemblies of God, an evangelical church with many far-right politicians as members that promotes Christian fundamentalism all across the Americas and Oceania. They're also the ones behind Hillsong.
05.12.2024 16:00 β π 31 π 4 π¬ 2 π 0Milei recently received an award by the Hayek Society, a far-right libertarian German think-tank associated with the Heritage Foundation and pro-Brexit orgs, whose namesake was a fan of Pinochet & Salazar. Their primary goal is to reduce government interference in all areas of governance.
05.12.2024 16:00 β π 32 π 3 π¬ 2 π 1What to expect from #Project2025 in πΊπΈ? Sometimes it's useful to look at the allies and role models of #Trump around the world. Milei in π¦π·, Bolsonaro in π§π·, Pinochet in π¨π±, Salazar in π΅πΉ. A little thread on what might make these comparisons worth looking at:
