The President’s attacks on law firms are one part revenge tour, but more significantly, a bid to stop the sort of legal challenges to his policies that have largely succeeded to date before they can even get off the ground.

A federal court’s jurisdiction does *not* stop at the water’s edge. The question is whether the *defendants* are subject to the court order, not *where* the conduct being challenged takes place.
Were it otherwise, the government could act lawlessly overseas and courts would be powerless to stop it.
It's not that the kid is wrong, it's that he's wrong with utter and serene confidence. When people ask me why I wrote The Death of Expertise, it wasn't ignorance that compelled me to write, it was this kind of unbreakable, completely self-assured ignorance that did it.
A sad event, but not surprising.

Republicans have been out to gut Social Security for years because it’s one of the most popular and successful programs ever created.
Those who claim to care about the debt while pushing for trillions in tax cuts for the rich and corporations don't really care about the debt. Hello?

Coming out of a bit of a news break whilst in L.A. and this is quite the hard re-entry: the president of Ukraine being lectured like a child by the U.S. president and vice president who want to steal his natural resources and hand chunks of his country to Putin. I have never been so embarrassed.
It's equal parts nauseating and funny to see these guys talking about "strength" and "courage" and "standing up" while engaging in the kind of pathetic, servile, "yes-my-baron" ritual groveling rarely seen by men not wearing literal gimp suits.

U. S. District Court Judge Dale Ho will hold a hearing tomorrow on whether dropping the federal prosecution of NYC’s corrupt mayor is in the “public interest.” It isn’t. Deference to DOJ is required. Abdication of judgment isn’t. If ever there was a case in which the judge should say no, it’s this.
Last week, the hottest ticket in NYC wasn't the SNL 50th anniversary concert. It was the three nights Paul McCartney played at a tiny downtown venue that usually hosts up-and-coming indie rock bands.

Perhaps Mr. Bove and others wouldn’t mind filling federal prosecutors’ offices with sock puppets and ideologues. In the long run, the plan is probably self-defeating. The responses of judges, juries and witnesses” to this new reality may ensure that outcome.
