Photo of a marble owl sculpted in relief. The owl is facing forwards with wings folded behind. The sculpture is a rectangular shape with broken edges because it originally was part of a seat, likely from a theater. The owl is a symbol of Athena, so this is was perfect for the Athenian acropolis.

Owls rule.
This one decorated a marble seat. It was found on the acropolis in Athens, likely dating to the 4th century BCE. Possibly from the Odeion of Pericles.
Now in the Acropolis Museum, Athens.
Photo my own.

This was 30 years ago and the festival is still doing business, but under different management. (Not the one that's been the subject of documentaries; we have several here in Texas.)

The season storywriter (a friend of my ex) walked away with a nice upper five-figure payday and the festival almost went bust paying him off. They definitely screwed him over but the failure to distinguish between gross and net was a big self-own.

I know a horror story about how a Renaissance festival violated their contract with their season storywriter, who sued them. They lost (the plaintiff had an IP lawyer from a big firm & the defendants were pro se) and the defendants only gave the judge gross receipts for that year, not the net.

So, a buddy got bushwhacked again by a granola wingnut, so I gotta remind y'all yet again:

It's absolutely CRITICAL that one curates one's counterculture, or else you get antivax and Soros theories and chemtrail bullshit and all kinds of other fascist/protofascist horrors.

Reminder that ICE was invented after 9/11 to terrorize people on US soil.

W’s β€œwar on terror” incl mass surveillance, even more racial profiling & aggressive policing & treating immigration as a security issue. Muslims & Brown folk perceived as such can tell you how that went.

Abolish.

A post from Texas Governor Greg Abbott today clearly indicates he is factoring the political views of public school students into his narrative justifying a state takeover of a local school district.

Alright, where are my gifted kids at? You were smart and you never had to study and then you went to college and suddenly had to learn a new skillset overnight, that everybody else had years to learn, or flame out spectacularly?

That’s what talent is like.

Dallas hires 300 goats to clean up White Rock Lake and yes, they’re very baaa-sy As part of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department’s new eco-friendly vegetation management project, the city is using Fort Worth-Weatherford area goats and...

This is the future that (Texas) liberals want: taxpayer-funded goats clearing invasives from public parks & restoring the health of native prairie.

Lancelot β€œCapability” Brown, who died on this day in 1783, was remarkably prolific in Yorkshire, with around 20 sites linked to his work. He transformed rigid, formal gardens into naturalistic parkland, defined by sweeping lawns, serpentine lakes and carefully placed clumps of trees. His 1/3

My ex is no longer with us, but as badly as I think of him, I don't think he would have gone full-on MAGA. He was one of those guys who was loudly feminist but didn't want to do his share of the dishes, though, so I could be wrong.

Good on you for being no contact.
