Here in Snow Command taking some 311 calls.
Crews remain out hitting neighborhoods, clearing intersections, & hauling out snow.
Great to check in on neighbors in Garfield and Friendship as well as a few businesses in Brookline.
Thanks to everyone who is keeping an eye on their neighbors and loved ones.
We are suspending refuse collection through the end of the week so Public Works crews can focus on snow. Garbage & recycling pick up trucks are plowing, residential snow is on curbs, & we are expecting low wind chills.
Collection will resume as normal on Monday, February 2nd.
Crews have cleared 100-tons of snow from intersections in Garfield alone. Our contractors are using front loaders & other equipment to haul snow out of neighborhoods & off of streets after being plowed.
Sixty Public Works crews & contractors remain on the roads.
50 contractor trucks will join 35 from Public Works to continue plowing following the major storm. Front loaders will take snow from corners to be hauled away. Please don’t park near corners or in a business districts.
Please check on neighbors as the bitter cold takes hold.
The snowfall has finally stopped in Pittsburgh.
Over 50 trucks will be on the 10 PM-6AM shift after one of the largest single day snow totals in decades.
Crews will be working to dig out from this storm & salt as cold temperatures move in. Latest here: pittsburghpa.gov
Our current shift started at 2 PM & we have 60 trucks out. Snow hasn’t stopped since 2 AM, & we’ll be plowing streets again & again until the job is done.
Refuse collection is suspended Monday & CitiParks warming centers are open. Stay up to date at: pittsburghpa.gov
City crews from every division of the Department of Public Works are on duty.
I’m so thankful to them all for their service to Pittsburgh!
I was just in the Strip District checking in with Heavy Equipment and the Fourth Division.
The snow is still coming down quickly. We’re already at a few inches with more to come. Our crews are working hard. Just remember, as more snow falls, a road may become covered again.
I’m at the Command Center at City Hall with my team.
Remember, if you can stay off the roads today, please stay off them. Thank you to our Public Works crews who are tackling this storm.
I’m encouraging every Pittsburgher to check on their neighbors this weekend. We’ve been making calls (thanks Jill!) & I’m happy to say we’ve recruited over 150 new Snow Angels!
Snow Angels pairs older residents, or people with disabilities, with a neighbor to clear their snow.
Ahead of the snowstorm, Public Works is preparing:
• 2PM-10PM: 35 Trucks Pretreating
• 10PM-6AM: 65 Trucks
• 6AM-2PM: 85 Trucks
If you don’t need to travel for essential work or health reasons, try to stay off the roads. Check on your neighbors, & stay safe, Pittsburgh!
