The number of people I'm mentally prepared to talk to today: 0

The number of people who keep fucking talking to me: 8 and counting

The number of people who started talking to me WHILE I WAS ON THE 📞: 2 and counting

If you take 2 days off, but the day you return is a Saturday, you're going to need to follow it up with an additional 2 days off.

Survived another banned books week but BOY did I have to really bite my tongue and walk away from FB. Did anyone else have an upsurge in bad faith arguments, deliberate misunderstandings, and verbatim talking points in the comments this year? Especially by non-library patrons? Bots, perhaps?

I come on here, last about 15 minutes, then encounter the Endless Screaming bot, and that about sums up my feeling about everything right now.

Jesus. Some lady called to reserve a conference room because she needs somewhere to put her dogs for a few hours.

Madam, this is a public library not a dog kennel service!

Yesterday's reasons I do this:

A patron on the spectrum recited Star Wars poetry to me.

An old man told dad jokes every time he walked past my desk ("I'm here all week, folks").

Kids were signing up for library cards and summer reading mere minutes after being released from the last day school.

I really want to be amused by how stupid AI is, except them I remember that a significant number of Americans will accept all AI results at face value... and I'm so tired of living in a country full of imbeciles...

Less than 45 minutes after President Donald Trump thanked the National Guard "for a job well done!" Mayor Karen Bass clarified on social media "the National Guard has not been deployed in the City of Los Angeles."

Remind me... How do I report government waste, fraud, and abuse?

But keep telling us how they care about the debt and efficiency. This colossal waste will stand as a historic monument to his malignant narcissism.

Photograph of library nonfiction shelf. Mid-photo is a book by Dale E. Bredesen. The title is The Ageless Brain but because of the placement of the Dewey decimal classification sticker, the title reads The Ageless Bra.

Today in unfortunate library sticker placement...

Watching my teacher friends gleefully post their end of school countdowns with increasing dread because it's also a doomsday clock for the library... SUMMER READING IS COMING!

If you care about libraries, museums, archives, and all the people who work at them, please call your elected officials ASAP. We have limited time to act on this.

I'm always recommending Red Shirts to people! It's hilarious and Scalzi's books are so well written.

John Fugelsang: "JD Vance is a fusion of every kid that vanished on the Wonka Factory tour."

Steve Hofstetter: "Oompa Loompa Doopety Dope. Who fucked a couch and murdered the Pope?"

I laughed far too hard at this...

Classic Clue gameboard with Mini murder weapon figurines. Collaborative mystery game, Outfoxed, in which players work together to identify the suspects and uncover clues. Junior Detective includes mini case files and clues hidden at various locations on the board. The clues are also disguised, requiring special decoding.

My kids book club just finished Midnight at the Barclay Hotel, so we had our discussion while playing mystery boardgames - Outfoxed, classic Clue, and Junior Detective. We had a blast!

I can't believe this is still a thing. One of my low-information social media contacts has been sharing recipes for drinking ivermectin daily as a preventative and their sources cited are... incredibly shaky.

Every time we drive past a cyber truck, I point out out to my dog and say, "Oh, look, buddy! There goes a douchebag!"

But didn’t Congress just fund IMLS?
On March 14th, the Senate passed and the president signed a continuing resolution for fiscal year 2025, which provides funding for IMLS through September 2025.

Although this continuing resolution provides funding for IMLS, President Trump has instead directed the agency’s elimination all on the same day. This Executive Order usurps the intent of Congress’s decision to provide funding for IMLS, which President Trump agreed to in signing that law.

oopsy @schumer.senate.gov failed to avoid a government shutdown

As we write, DOGE is reportedly inside the gates of the IMLS (Institute for Museum and Library Services), where Keith Sonderling, Deputy Secretary of Labor and “somehow now Acting Director” of IMLS is dismantling the agency that helps libraries be libraries. /1

And normally I would add the alt text to the image but it's too fucking long to retype on my phone. Click the link to the actual document.

White text on red background reads: "Sometimes I wonder if the fall of Rome was this stupid."

This is seriously the Dumbest Apocalypse Ever. 0/5 stars. Do not recommend.

You know the deep south, Mississippi & Louisiana, was where you'd get shipped downriver from the upper south in the days of chattel slavery because conditions down there were known to be more brutal, & that legacy remains in how heavy they incarcerate people, & they shipped Mahmoud Khalil downriver.

It's all too much. Five minutes of scrolling through "what fresh hell happened today? " and now I need to double my anxiety medication.
