i talked about this, i found "disturbing detachment" a poor visual fit for a weepy tragedy and it means the actors are asked to carry most of the emotional load instead of creating believable human beings
lots to talk about in that chapter i guess but it is the detail that's really sticking with me. that Dixon, who opens the chapter offering to provide protection to Mason, feels unable to confront this horrible place unless he's pretending to *be* him
neither Brett Biebel's Mason and Dixon companion nor the Pynchon Wiki have anything to say about the bit where, in the chapter where they go to the town where the native americans were just massacred, Dixon is drawn to visit the site overnight while dressed in Mason's clothes....
don't agree with every placement here but this ranking is spiritually flawless

the show is so awesome. drink it like a fine wine
you can really watch them in any order but the original broadcast order has a lot of oddities (separating an obvious two-parter and airing the parts in the wrong order is a biggie) and the way it jumps around makes it hard to get a sense of the protag's growing relationship w/ the village
here's a viewing order i made for first timers. i think it takes you through the thematic and formal progression of the series coherently without worrying too much about little plot contradictions (spoilery methodology in replies)
