It was a genuine privilege to have Richard Dawson’s son share stories of his dad’s Tonight Show guest-host run & sharp rapport with Johnny Carson, hear behind-the-scenes memories from the legendary Pete Barbutti, and get insights from Carson expert Mark Malkoff. Up now at LateNighter!

A really, really fun piece by @nickriccardo.bsky.social , featuring fascinating anecdotes from Richard Dawson's son Mark and comic Pete Barbutti (of the episode that famously never aired).
Am I wrong or is this the same vibe
In the words of Bowie:

John Forté left me with the most meaningful artist/fan interaction I've ever experienced. It was a core moment for me. What a profound loss to this realm.
My favorite part of Marty Supreme was when Marty gifted his mom an Anthropologie rock.
Cinephile discourse completely ignoring the fact that Song Sung Blue breaks the one rule set forth at the karaoke bar in The King of Queens.
"Marty Supreme is loosely based on the story of Marty Reisman."
The story of Marty Reisman: There was a ping-pong player and his name was Marty.
Rob & Michele Reiner serendipitously bought their home from Norman Lear. Though it had long been Rob's dream home, Michele found it on her own. It was also built by Henry Fonda, who raised Peter & Jane Fonda there. Rob told the story in a 2015 interview for American Masters' Lear doc.

“704 Hauser,” the Bunker’s house in Queens, seen today & as it appeared on All in the Family. RIP Rob Reiner
Ain’t that just like a Roomba: encounter an obstacle and turn around.
He went on to tell a caller he has “had an incredible run” and “it’s a lot to walk away from because it took a long time to build this.”
“Tomorrow morning when I first sign on, tune in if you’re that interested or curious about what we’re gonna be doing.”
“I will make an announcement tomorrow. And please, no matter what the announcement is, just try to understand.”
On his show just now, Howard Stern teased “an announcement about my future” tomorrow morning.
Noting the false rumors that he was departing SiriusXM after tense negotiations earlier this summer, he said, “I do have an answer now, finally, about what’s gonna happen.”
Here's another early one: a January 1967 episode of Batman. Reiner had one line. One word, in fact: "Batman?!"
Four years later, he'd become Meathead on All in the Family.
One of Rob Reiner's earliest TV roles (his third, I think): An episode of "That Girl" from December 1966.
The Reiner news is so dark and all kinds of awful. There's so much to be said about the marks Rob Reiner left on TV & film, but my earliest thoughts are of the family. Any death is traumatic enough, but the absolute horror of a circumstance like that casts an even larger cloud.
The Lonely Island post in question: a running dictionary of the made-up words the dudez scatter about the pod. (Per today's episode, an entry for "winter soldiering" has been added.)
Something I didn't see coming: a *Rolling Stone* article about *Weird Al* links out to my post about *The Lonely Island.* That's 2005 Nick's holy trinity right there.
I often forget that Bo Burnham gave us what I genuinely believe is one of the greatest, most perfect songs ever written.
Was Conan O'Brien a 'Star Search' find? Netflix's reboot promo says yes, but the record doesn’t back it up.
On a related note, I now have a second Bluesky account. I won't tell you the username, but I am willing to entertain acquisition offers from qualified fast food chains.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce, in the name of professionalism and SEO, that I've changed my Bluesky handle from @chickentenders to @nickriccardo.
Frisbee forever ❤️
I prefer to think of Hanks as Fonzie's nemesis Dr. Dwayne Twitchell, but to each their own.
With Everybody Loves Raymond back in the discourse, can we acknowledge that “Christmas Present” (s5e11) is one of the greatest sitcom episodes—and certainly holiday episodes—ever written? Deserves to be remembered with the same reverence (rightfully) given to “The Canister.”
🤔 Something tells me Trump watches Seth Meyers more than he's letting on...
Today is the 100th birthday of Johnny Carson, the influential fashion mogul who also hosted a late-night talk show.
