Can't help but feel the counties are being separated into three categories in this parade:

1. Counties that can cartwheel or summersault.

2. Counties that can play music.

3. Counties that can pilot a scooter.

Toy Show: This is Child 1

Ireland: I would die for Child 1

Toy Show: Goodbye Child 1. Now welcome Child 2

Ireland: Never mind, Child 1 is dead to me. I love Child 2 now.

A real Old Town dump from the outside, owned by Michael Pierpaoli, who owned this and a steak house nearby (he wanted to have his own places to indulge his interests in music and food). He died in 2024 at 93.

Go Behind the Scenes at an Iconic Irish Library as Staff Move 700,000 Historical Treasures Into Storage Trinity College Dublin’s Old Library will close for restoration and construction in 2027. What does that mean for the medieval manuscripts and books housed there?

The Old Library in Trinity College, Dublin, is one of the most beautiful & greatest in the world. I was lucky enough to be able to research there during my PhD. It’s undergoing a massive restoration. Trinity is an Irish copyright library & founded in 1592.

“Marlon Brando? I’d never met a white man who so thoroughly embraced black culture. He loved going with me to jazz clubs. . . . Marlon was a prankster; if he saw you napping, he’d tie your shoelaces together. . . . But as a friend, he was bedrock loyal.” - Harry Belafonte

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

You know, I think if I owned the rights to a century's worth of the most acclaimed films ever like The Wizard of Oz and 2001, plus all the most popular characters in cartoon history, plus Superman and Batman, plus tons of other stuff, I could probably make enough money I wouldn't need to sell it.

A deliciously stylish not quite Bond, not enough 'creepy', just eat the turkey & get the hell out Del, and a stone-cold, five star, classic neo noir.

“We had to kill the survivors in the water with a missile because they might flip the shards of the boat, continue to the US, and sell drugs” is not really any different than “We had to kill the entire village because the children might grow up and join the Vietcong,” except much less plausible

America stares down erasure of Black history and progress In the last year, federal, state and institutional decisions have gutted pillars of America's civil rights protections.

America stares down erasure of Black history and progress www.axios.com/2025/11/29/f... "The cuts and deletions are, paradoxically, drawing more attention to Black history [and the need for it to understand and respond to this moment], says National Urban League president Marc H. Morial."

One other little seasonal curio for Dubliners, if you walk up Grafton Street, just past Lush, and look over at the upper floor of the Provost’s House in Trinity, the illuminated Christmas tree allows you see what I think is the portrait of Elizabeth I.

Recommendation: "Shield For Murder", a really good film noir starring Edmond O' Brien. A decent addition to the "crooked cop feeling the noose tighten round him" subgenre. Quite brutal for its era. It features one of the most rigorous pistol whippings I've seen for a while. It's on Amazon Prime.
