Lawyer, writer, all-around-great person I mostly post about technology, law, and civil liberties (especially free speech), and how they intersect. And mostly at Techdirt: https://www.techdirt.com/user/cathy/ I also post silly things too.

NOTABLY the Paxton opinion that Abbott cites doesn’t actually say lawmakers who break quorum are removable β€” in fact it says this is a fact-specific question only resolvable by a court.

The opinion also does not say it’s unconstitutional to break quorum.

So the White House leaked this maybe misinformation to pressure other universities? And it maybe worked on Cornell and Brown? Cool system of mafia government we've got going here.

Absolutely agree. FWIW, one of our bathroom faucets broke last year, and my wife mentioned "I think that one had a lifetime guarantee" so I emailed the mfgr, and they said "yup, but we don't make that model any more: just pick one from the following list and we'll send you two."

Yesterday I was with some people out in the hills, when I saw something move in a field. At first I thought it was a deer, and went to point it out, but then I realized it was something else, and for the first time in my life heard myself yell, "BIG RABBIT BIG RABBIT BIG RABBIT!!" as it ran away...

Paul Ingrassia (lawyer) - Wikipedia

The guy Trump picked to lead the office that’s now investigating Jack Smith:

β€” said Niki Haley is ineligible to be president
β€” has neo-Nazi ties
β€” was Andrew Tate’s lawyer
β€” 2x Claremont fellow
β€” wrote for Gateway Pundit
β€” called for Pence to be hanged
β€” called for secession after 2020 election

(Clarification: I will subscribe to free Substacks, just not pay, because I understand it's become an easy default. In this case though it was a free newsletter already on another platform that still went out of its way chose Substack, which raises a judgment issue.)

Also, I'd like to support more indy journalism but I will not let my $ help underwrite the Nazi amplification. So pick another platform if you'd like me to pay to subscribe, or have an alternate fundraising mechanism.

Was subscribed to a newsletter. Just got alerted that it had migrated from Ghost *TO* Substack!

Hard nope to that and a quick unsubscribe.

If you're not going to be bothered by the Nazi amplification then I'm not going to be bothered by what you have to say.

Trump likes to push the lie that wind turbines cause cancer, but the only way that would happen is if you grounded them down to a powder and snorted it, probably; kind of like inhaling air pollution from burning fossil fuels.

Trump And Miller Compel Colleges Not To Enroll International Students Trump officials are using rules, policies and agreements to compel and discourage U.S. universities from enrolling international students.

Wow. Had not realized that Columbia’s settlement with Trump admin included a commitment to decrease international student enrollment. In what way does this help β€œcombat antisemitism,” which is supposedly the administration’s objective?

I wonder how far this ruling could go. Can it work where other 1983 claims are failing? Or Bivens? It has always seemed weird that the Constitution says no to a whole lot of government abuse, but then lets the government get away with it anyway.

I don't understand what is meant by a "Democratic Stephen Miller." Miller is motivated by contempt and hatred and his most successful tool has been his willingness to lie. "Hatians eating dogs and cats" and "invasion," etc.

Not even the truth beat those lie. So what is it they're asking for?
