#YouthForGreenCommunities is joining a critical side session at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, focusing on Solidarity, #Equality, #Sustainability and #Climate Justice. Honored to have them carry our voice into key conversations on the protection of Environmental Defenders across Africa.

We joined more than 200 organizations to demand that the UNFCCC reverse the impacts of their request to increase security forces around #COP30 which is replicating the form of state violence Indigenous Peoples & human rights defenders face across their territories.

At #COP30, our team leader #BrightonAryampa represented grassroots communities and frontline defenders.

He carried the voices of women, youth & activists harmed by oil activities.

#Forests are disappearing, biodiversity is at risk, and climate goals are under threat. #COP30 must push for strong measures to end deforestation, protect ecosystems and forge #partnerships for lasting forest conservation.

Last year, #COP29 focused on scaling up climate finance and accelerating real climate action. Yet false solutions like carbon markets & carbon capture continue to delay progress.

COP30 must reject these distractions and commit to genuine measures that cut emissions and build resilient communities.

#YGC, in partnership with @IGENEastAfrica, submitted proposals for government negotiators to consider during COP30 discussions.

These proposals focused on advancing #renewable energy, promoting agro-ecology, restoring ecosystems & ensuring climate finance reaches communities.

Justice for the environmental defenders❗

The trial of the 12 Ugandan activists accused of causing a public nuisance during a peaceful anti-EACOP protest has resumed.

They were arrested in August, and the case has been adjourned for another two weeks.
